It detects based on browser headers. In Opera on my Windows Mobile there is an option to identify the browser as a "desktop" machine... which changes the browser user agent and then you get the full version.

I have no iPhone. Buy me one and I'll let you know how to change it.

I'll put in £5 for an iPhone for vb. they can't be much more than that?
