  • Hi Guys,

I need to get my new(old) frame sprayed or powder coated.

I know a few guys have mentioned getting there frames powder coated. Can anyone recommend a place.

What should I expect to pay?

    Thanks

  • armourtex - google it or search the site. 60 quid.

  • Cheers mate, I'll ring them in the morning.

  • armourtex are amazing

  • +1 armourtex quick good job

  • anyone doing black, PM me please :) , got 2 small bits to get done.

  • if you can get your stuff to Birmingham, I can get frames done for £25 any colour. Including prep. by chemical bath and shot blasting.

  • london2birmingham ride, anyone ;-)

    • 1 armourtex
  • At the risk of asking a fucking stoopid one (it's delayed shock, honest)...

Is powdercoating glossy or matt finished?

  • armourtex did my frame for 40quid (no forks)
    did a really nice job

Is powdercoating glossy or matt finished?

mine's glossy - they have a "clearcoat" finish which currently has the choice of sparkles or clear. i guess if you get it without then it might be more matt like. the other thing to note is that they use RAL colours (google for chart) although don't have a complete selection by any means. however, great turn around time - they quote 3-4 days, i think, depending how busy, but i got mine back in 24 hours!

  • Cheers, doc.

After this afternoon's fiasco the CONdor is looking distinctly secondhand.

  • Are the RAL colours really that moody?

All a bit pastel to my eyes.

  • yep! although they actually come out a bit brighter and more cheerful: i got mine in moss green, helen's is in heather violet but mine is actually a nice kind of racing green and her's a bright pink - object would be jealous, methinks! ;-)

  • ps don't forget it depends on your screen quality, too. only real way to tell is when you get down there and have a look at the colour charts, and even then it's a bit different to when it's on metal, and different again to what it looks like with the clearcoat over the top. nb. 45gn without clearcoat, 60 with (frame and forks). extra li'l bits will set you back 5 or 10 pound a piece, i think: they said that most of the work is in the masking/preparation.

  • I hear you.

Thing is I've got this inclination towards a lurid lime green, a nod to my first ever win, on my Viscount Aerospace.

It was 1986, what can I say....?

  • "i'm old" ?

  • I do my utmost to refrain from stating the fucking obvious.

Might have been the magical summer of '88, now I think about it....

  • too many 'shrooms, then ;-)

    g'nite!

  • you can get gloss or matt finish powdercoat straight off without a top coat

    I was born then. :)

  • Unlikely, but anyone know of a powdercoaters in the North West of England? Could save on driving or postage costs. These places that people are suggesting...do they have particular experience with bikes or would I be OK taking it to a place that powdercoats radiators etc because I now a fairly cheap place that does that?

  • do they do the prep as well or would you have to strip a frame yourself?

  • For Armourtex you need to strip it right down to just bear metal.

They'll powder coat whatever you give 'em so if you don't want a nice matching colour (non-moving) headset & BB you'll want to pop out all your bits.

The finish is beaut though (with gloss laquer) and for an extra fiver I had them do my stem too which not looks total sex :)

The only downside for me has been discovering my eBay forks have turned out to be French threaded :(
