Value for money

All these off the peg fixie/singlespeeds seem to all cost £400+ (charge plug etc)

is it just me or does that seem really poor value seeing as they have so few parts?

I mean a £420 off the peg bmx would blow away an equivalent fixie.

And the price of those unipack's is just plain scandalous.

They have the same quality as a viking/universal/python/ £80 (which wholesale at £15-£20) mountain bike. Take away the gears & suspension, it *should *work out a lot cheaper.

I was thinking of getting a touring bike and watching this on ebay, in the end I decided it was too big.

But check the condition & quality of bike you can get in the £350 ballpark

Similar thing to this has been said before. It's because fixed wheel is still incredibly niche, so the cost of producing, for example, a flip flop hub is enormous compared to that for a bmx cassette hub. Hence it appears to be low value for money. Also sales of them are lower, so profit margins are greater, which means higher prices generally.

A closer and better comparison would be with a cheap road bike as the only difference then is some cheap gears. In which case I think the otp fixed wheel bike compare favorably

How about comparing a used but excellent condition custom made Bob Jackson Fixed Gear on ebay?

Stand that next to this one, which has pretty decent 105 parts and that.
