That's a glass of Pastis
I think it called that cos its a pastiche of Absinthe, since Absinthe was made illegal early last century.
But that's just a theory of mine.

Absinthe was never prohibited under UK law.

But it was in France, where Ricard used to make absinthe and now pastis.

I have to say I assumed you would read that I meant in France... what with the french theme of the photo and all, and what with pastis being a french word for a french drink

So:
does it mean pastiche or what?

don't the Cornish speak some kind of dialect which is French-derived?
Anyway I love Cornish pastis.

You can still buy absinthe in France, my favourite is Un Emile 68, beautiful drop... They banned the wormwood is all (which AFAIK was only used in the cheap crap that made everyone wacko back in the day) and then came up with pastis... None of that snot-coloured, quasi-absinthe Czech muck for me, no sir... Pastis is awesome, I prefer 51 to Ricard, a little more complex on the palette...

Off the top of my head:
When absinthe was banned in France in 1915 the major absinthe producers (then Pernod Fils and Ricard, which have since merged to become Pernod Ricard) reformulated their drink without the banned wormwood component. There was a heavier focus on the aniseed flavour, sugar and a lower alcohol content creating pastis, which remains popular in France today. Pastis has changed considerably since its first creation, based on market preference. -

I had some absinthe that didn't agree with me.
I think it was pastis use-by-date.
