Hooray For Davis Davis (I think)

  • I gave up being bothered with the homogenous world of British politics long ago.

    And im only 23.

But the other day I see who, DAVIS DAVIS - conservative, on some morning talk show arguing against the BBC presenter FOR human rights, against anti terrors bills etc..

It pretty much shocked me that a BBC presenter was debating on the side AGAINST civil liberties etc, and the way he kept pausing to allow DAVIS to deliver his perfectly composed arguments seemed almost "setup"

I was just to cynical to "root" for him while watching it, just turned it off.

And then today I see Davis again making the official statement that his resigning to fight against "the erosion of civil liberties" and defending the foundation of society that is the magna carta.

He really seemed a man of principle and a voice of reason.

Im quite blown away, I didnt think Id see some real politics in my lifetime.

But can this be for real? or are there some ulterior motives...

Like I said, I dont really pay attention to the way politics works. As its all a bit samey.

But would like to hear peoples thoughts on this.

  • well, it certainly has a somewhat genuine feel to it... and if it is, then cudos to the guy for standing up for something!

  • I bet he is in a very safe conservative seat so the risk is minimal, but he possible publicity for him self and the party is massive.

  • Racist

  • Yep, he is in a safe seat, he just beat the Lib Dem candidate by a truckload at the last election. He is resigning, then running again in the by-election.

Whilst it does have something of the 'pr stunt' about it, in this case it's for a pretty damn good reason. Just can't believe it's a tory fighting for our civil liberties.

  • David Davis FFS...

  • ...Just can't believe it's a tory fighting for our civil liberties.

I know, sad isn't it. Davis is one of the 'poor-man's' Tories, so I feel a bit better that it's not a stupid toff making the point.

It's quite an old fashioned stunt to force a by-election. I think Cameron isn't too comfortable with it - it could be great amunition for the government, however, I feel that the old, disgusting, slow machine that used to be the labour party will let it pass!

I hope Davis wins his seat and wins it solely on the 42 day issue - to make the point of how ridiculous it is.

I often wonder if we had a Tory government would we have a less American style??
