  • peterD just posted on spotted, doesn't sound like a man who's just been hit by a truck.

The question is, is it someone on here? Get well soon dude, whoever you are.

Those blind spot diagrams are superb and frightening. I wonder if truck depots could put them out to their drivers so they, too, would be a little less blase about it.

  • FFS!! **Don't ride beside trucks!!

**(Not saying this guy did but that's what it looks like and it doesn't hurt to remind some of you)

    +1

and what is it with Roundabouts?! get in front of them and let them know your there!

  • Judging by the position of the truck, it was in the wrong lane coming round the roundabout and was swinging across a lane of traffic to go south into the City. The position where the rider would have been is pretty much the normal position that everyone ends up in when they're trying to head straight across the roundabout from Old St east to Old St west.

I wasn't there at the time, though, just have been riding that route every morning for the last four years so have a vague idea of how things normally work there.

  • Eh? I saw him on the deck what seemed quite close to the rails on the inside, which made me think the cyclist was going to turn left into the city and undertook the truck. But I did say it was only a 10sec look.

    Agreed.

Dunno, he'd been taken away by the time I went past. But the lorry was quite a way out from the railings, plus on a bike you tend to get forced onto the outside of traffic anywhere you are on that roundabout unless you're very assertive.

  • **hackney gazette article
    **

"A cyclist is a serious condition"

    isnt it just!

    +more info: islington gazette

  • yeah I saw the gazette today and it says that he may loose his leg. :(

  • Oh, I see. The cyclist collided with the lorry.

What a stupid thing to do :S

  • That's fucked up.. saw him on the deck :(
The only issues I've had with that roundabout are cunts in cars/trucks running the E-W red light when I'm moving off, but then I'm running most of the others, but then I'm not going to maim them in a crash.
I hope he heals but it doesn't sound promising. :(

  • Bloody hell :S I hope this fella heals up.

  • I must get more efficient at all this forumengering...thanks for the worry peeps.
Glad to hear the rider was okay...very very lucky if so.

ha, the accident was tragic but this is a weird article :

A police spokeswoman described his injuries as "potentially life-changing."

  • Get better fella whoever you are!

Newspaper reports are f*cking weird. 10 years ago I was hit by a car from behind at 70mph, leaving me with smashed teeth, a broken back and a severed tendon in my leg. Apparently I collided with a car and suffered cuts and bruises. My mum went mental and phoned the paper whilst I was recovering. New report printed with a much fairer assessment of what happened.

  • Slack journalism. Journalists are primarily cunts

  • I like the way news papers always state whether a rider was wearing a helmet or not as if to insinuate that not wearing a helmet means it's partially the riders fault or they were asking for trouble.

  • "Journalist's face cut clean off by Spinergy rotating at high speed"

  • ^lol!

he was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Oi! Some are, some aren't. Same as any profession.

I'm a hack and a cyclist. Unfortunately I write about energy so am not going to be able to rectify the shitty local news coverage any time soon, but all the same...

Hope the chap in the crash is going to be okay.

  • There's a difference between journalists and writers. Journos are looking for the headline, writers get involved in their subject

glad you like it, i'm happy for you :)
