P!mp / eeehhhh : I have found some other places you can still get the creme eggs. Not surprisingly these are the masters at the game, still selling them at zero discount months after Tesco's and the other big boys were ordered to shift stock and slash prices (what a bonanza that was). I'll start with a zinger then go local on your ass:
WHSMITH, MARYLEBONE TRAIN STATION. They're going for about fifty pence each. There was a mountain of them last Friday night, not surprising at fifty pence each. Even I had to think of my pocket and so kept to just two.
Costcutters - Londonwide, esp. more local examples. The antithesis of eveything costcutting stands for, this local-look store nonetheless yields the eggs with surprising reliability. Don't expect no price favours from these boys either, they knows you want 'em if you still askin' for 'em. About 45p.
BENJI'S, EASTCHEAP. Caps used here because it's an unbelievable find, yes at the very hub of working London. The swathes of lunching City boys obviously sail past the doorway, deeming Benjy's fare too modest for their bulging pockets - they've blown it, 'cos they've missed out on one of central London's best-kept secrets - a stash of counter-side creme eggs, still brashly in the impulse-buy zone. Benjy lays 'em on yer for about 45p. Nearest station: Monument (3 mins).
