Musette?

  • Does anyone on here use them?

I carry the bear minimum on my back pack for my commute, boxers/socks /sandwiches.

I keep my work clothes at work, anyway. My question is would a musette do the job instead?

    Cheers

  • mussettes are like toilet paper: use it once, then throw it away.

  • A no then!:)

  • that's a proper bag, not really a mussette in the real sense of the thing?

    I don't reckon anyway

£60! Nice, I like it, alot but not for that money. I was looking at a spend of £5 earth pounds only!

  • Sorry.

Have you tried a carradice saddle bag with one of the quick release fittings? Then no back problems no wide panniers and quick to get on and off. I think they look classy too. Not what your asking I know but I thought I'd throw it in there.

Fair play. I am after something minimal though. I thought a musette might have fitted the bill. As I say I don't have that much kit to carry but I don't like stuffing it in my jersey pockets. Other suggestions welcome.:)

  • They would do the job but for how long you'd have to find out, I have a couple I like the designs on but don't use them much as they are super thin and not stitched to last like RPM said. Try one from here and see, can you resist their cap collection though?

  • The correct terminology in the UK is not "musette" it is "bonk bag"...as in a bag that you carry food in which will stop you getting "the bonk" otherwise known as "hunger knock"...when your blood glycogen runs out and you have pretty sudden energy loss.

They used to be pretty common and there was a generic make with different club / team patches stuck on......

My favourite online bike shop! I treated myself to couple of campag hats a while ago and recently the cafe de colombia jersey rerto tastic but I don't climb like Luis Herrera !

  • and they looked just like this one! obviously still being made so could probably get a custom batch made up if you could track manufacturers

  • CONdor had some lately.

    Very cheap, very flimsy.

    Ideal!

  • my dad picked one up at the smithfield nocturne, considering it was rapha it was pretty cheap i think it was a five or ten pounds with a rapha cap as well, even if it was just a small bag made of thin cotton. i like the fact that its a bag that you can just shove in your pocket when your finished with it, but it would be useless on wet days/carring anything bigger than a 'zine or a wallet.

  • 'twas a tenner for bag, cap and programme.

  • Or £5 mid way through the elite race as they sought to get shot of what was left of the stock.

  • I've got an Italia one GBP5 from Prendas Ciclismo. I keep my pump in it, rolled up in by jersey pocket. When I get to the pub it takes my mitts, cap, shades etc and hangs on the back of my stool.

  • here's rpm haggling with the girl as £5 could get him a 6pack at sainsburys!

    Like this?

  • I have just picked up one of these, for £6 delivered, from Urban Hunter and it is great.

  • I use the Condor ones - love them. Very light and flimsy but enough for the day to day essentials! The one thing that makes this one better than the usual musette is the waist band - making it nice and snug against your back when on the drops.

Only wish I could order them mail order as the shop is too far away.

Any alternative with the waist band?

  • I have people stood by the side of the road handing me my feed bags on my commute. If there's anything left I cast aside the scraps and let the proles indulge.
