Chainring BCD Sizes

  • I'm slightly confused and this may be a stupid questionĂ©,but if I'm running a 130mm BCD Chainring on my cranks,can I use a 144mm BCD chainring?

  • No.

  • no just 130mm, stronglight for instance.

  • Thanks,I knew it was a stupid question.

  • sorry for take back this thread, but didn't want to star a new one.

simple question, what is best 110BCD or 130BCD, and why?

I have the possibility to get a nice par of crancks in either BCD, so my question is, there are any rules or something that I should know, but I don't, or just don't matter one or the other?

    tha in advance

  • Since you are using these for SS / fixed I would suggest go for the 110mm BCD cranks.
You can get cheap old BMX rings for them off Billy's / Ebay. Many manufacturers are still making decent 1/8 non-ramped rings for 110mm BCD (e.g. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=993 £10 for Race face 46T ) You will be able to get a broader range of sizes for polo use.. down to 36T.

130mm is generally a road standard, so if you want to get unramped rings it will be either 52/51/50/49/48 range or the 42/39 inner ring range.
You can sometimes get 1/8 130mm BCD rings but I only recall seeing Gebhardt and few others.

  • i would go for the 130bcd if you are running anything over 40t, the crank chainring arms are stronger than the chainring. so the larger bcd will be stronger. also a lot of bmx rings are available 130.

  • Spa Cycles carry Stronglight which do a good range of 130mm. I used one on the Raleigh

  • prav opinion FAIL.

  • The larger the BCD the stronger/stiffer the crank, in theory.

But it will also limit your choice of smaller sized rings.

  • any with 130 BCD will do

  • ahh sweet. cheers.

  • What's the smallest size ring you can get with a 144 BCD?

  • I think a 41ish?

  • Yep, it's 41.
