Riding from Tooting Bec LU station to St James Park LU station = 30-35 mn - 8am weekdays (appx 12 miles per hour)

The Streatham Common - Angel ride in 22 mn....[/quote]

    Fuck me, that's good

  • I get the feeling G2G was asking people more for how long it takes you to do x to y on average rather than what your fastest time. Fastest time of of limited use because as well as when your busting a gut they happen when every thing runs smoothly too. Not too useful for building up a picture of how long it takes to travel between various points.

  • Danger Joel does the Streatham - Angel ride in 22 mn. Not me!

    very true...
mine is just the average time. they've fixed the towpath now, which has knocked about 10mins off my commute.

What bike has he got cos I see a couple of fixed riders going up there(Brixton Hill/Streatham Hill) now n then, I do it in a fairly quick time(love overtaking geared roadbike users :-)) and I've never seen anyone go like stink up there

  • Tommy, all answers will be just dandy. I think we can all see who was busting-a-gut, from who was taking in the sights. If any of us happened to be at Streatham Common for example, and we were full of brandy, we may well feel "I'm gonna 'ave that bloody danger_joel, and smash 10 minutes off his time"! And either beat it, not beat it, or fall over in the closest bus lane, or call it off and slope to the closest pub.

Post the times. We can all race each other (by time), or laugh at the prospect. Fair?

  • Last night pissed up:

Clapham junction --> bow: 2 hours.

    Winner winner chicken dinner!

  • I can sometimes do Ealing to Loughton in 13mins, only on a good day mind....

  • By the way, it may be boring, but the FASTEST I've ever ridden, was from Hammersmith Roundabout to Peckham High Street. I was racing a car, and the person in it worked for me. She said bikes were stupid, and a car was always faster. I said, in London, a bike is faster. Now, we're both competitive so we decided to race. She was in her little Renault, and I was on my all-Miche/Campy beater. My time to Peckham? 30 minutes, or just under. I lost, by less than 15 seconds. My legs were so pumped and gorged with blood, I could not turn one more revolution of my cranks. I walked home to Third Avenue off the Harrow Road, feeling still chuffed that I almost beat a car, with the driver properly racing, determined not to lose.

Post time. Race* (see addendum below). Or, take in the sights. Its all good.

*BringMeMyFix has made me see how idiotic that last part was. So please DON'T race in London, and risk your health and safety. He's right; I shouldn't have included that. I won't delete it, so people know that I responded to his advice.

  • Yeah, let's encourage people to take risks on the public highway in built-up/residential areas. It's all good.

Why not enter an alleycat if you need to race in town?

  • mike, what route do you go? i've done rides from shoreditch to finchley central in nowhere near these times.

Straight down Archway Road, Holloway Road, New North Road.
Admitidely, the 19 mins was a record time in the morning during school holidays. I caught every light down Holloway road, never stopped once. My normal time is about 23 mins.

Going the other way is slightly longer due to it being uphill all the way from Upper Holloway. But I average it in under half an hour everyday

Probably my greatest achievement of speed was when I worked in Gunnesburry and I lived in Hackney. My boss who rode a (proper) motorbike left about 5 mins before me to go to Old Street. I said to him on the way out, jokingly. ' I bet I could get to Old Street round about before you' He just smiled and left anyway. I wasnt really being serious but I fucking caned it and unbelievably, just as I was going down City Road towards the roundabout he pulls up next to me smiling asking how the fuck I did that. What a coincidence. He beat me to the roundabout by about 30 seconds!

i did the trip to angel on a geared racing bike in the middle of the afternoon, but normally im on a purple and white fixed(gillott) with risers and white deep vs. i always see some guy on an orange fixed gear going up brixton hill. and i saw a guy in streatham on a black fixed with an orange front wheel and nobrakes (slightly off topic)

  • Danger Joel does the Streatham - Angel ride in 22 mn. Not me!
i did that once, admittidly i have only done the ride up there once on that bike, but the time i did it only took that long and as i said before, it wasnt 22 exact it was more like 23, but i felt like rounding down.

  • round down in time up in length! It's the only way!

  • mikec, I guess its a given truth, that when you've properly caned your bike, its just a huge rush when you've achieved what you have surpised yourself with.

  • kidbrooke to southwark bridge 6.5 miles 19 minutes. average speed 20.5 miles an hour, current gearing thats around 110rpm average.

my plan to learn to spin seems to be working. hit 30 miles an hotur on a hill into work, reckon that 156rpm,

Don't you not have a front brake as well?

  • ^that's what i was thinking. a 3am or 4am ITT should be fun

TdF prologue circuit or this year's ToB circuit?

Yep, I'm properly up for that. Early morning would be perfect, as you say.

Let's get a date going for this.

  • A sprint I used to do regularly: Drury lane to News international (East Smithfield/The Highway) Slow start through Covent garden but then blast along Embankment.

2.7miles pb=7 minutes. 23mph/36kph. Very dependent on phasing of lights. On an MTB with slicks.

I reckon I spin faster now, but maybe for a ride like that it's possible to do it a anaerobically so that might not make a difference.

  • Early one sunday morning. Seven oclock start somewhere central like Regents/hyde park and go from there?

  • My daily commute is Bow -> Knightsbridge. Up until about a week ago I commuted on a scooter but some horrible cunt stole it. It usually took about 30mins. It turns out it was a good excuse to build a singlespeed and commute on that instead. I'm well intruiged to see the difference will be when I unleash my new bike, monday. I have a feeling it wont be far off.

  • Isn't anybody going to start a London TT thread? It really needs a whole thread just for itself.

  • It's your idea. You fucking do it.

  • object, read lpg's entry at 53, and fatboyralph's at 55.
NOT MY IDEA. I replied at number 62.
