There's fast, because you're riding fast.
And there's fast riding in traffic because you are insane.lol. What if you are both?

the fastest I've ever seen a commuter ride is around 40-42kmh, steady, from Tower Bridge to Greenwich. I followed him all the way down (and the guy in front knew it), tongue-out, but it was nuts as he was jumping lights as well. Including traffic, averaging (incl stops) in excess of 35kmh is pretty impossible without a death wish. Tho if anyone wants to slap on a camera and prove me wrong, I'd love to see it!

West Chiswick (Gunnersbury tube area) to Victoria - anything from 19 to 25 minutes.
West Chelsea to Cannon Street - 21 to 25 minutes.HTH

I try to be both but I'm no sprinter. I can hack long roads at top speed but it's not what I'm into.
It's all about distance and flow in my world. I like to maintain a constant(ish) speed, no stopping and keep everything as smooth as possible. -

I guess it depends how completely insane you are. There is one guy I have seen on my commute up Holloway road who will basically just fly across the Seven Sisters / Camden Road junctions on a red light with traffic coming across at speed. Swerving in between cars whilst swearing at the drivers. To me, that is complete insanity and kind of pointless

Completely agree. Nothing better than getting to work without stopping, or with minimal stops

I hope everybody keeps posting their journey times (and time of day it was done - object made a very good point there).
But, since lpg and fatboyralph sort-of suggested it, is anyone interested in a (3am-ish) London TT? Illegal of course, and possibly Cannonball Run style? Somebody want to start that thread, or answer from here?

lpg - you had a good idea when we met last year of a TT down the river route, riders starting at intervals. I'd be totally up for something like that.

That's why I love downhill mountain biking and 4cross too. It's all about the smoothness and fast reactions to unknown quantities.

I bet you all love it when other road users decide to treat their commutes as a race, where stopping is absolutely the last thing they want to do...
-
• #66
I've done Roehampton Gate - Brockley in around 45 mins late at night. More like 50-55 mins during rush hour. Commute is Brockley to St Pauls. 20 mins is a good time for that. Would be interested in a late-night ITT

Always. Give me more things to avoid.
I love playing in traffic. -

i know the ride sounds fast but it can be broken down, streatham to brixton is 5 mins then another 5 to elephant then across blackfriars to smithfield is another 5 then up st johns to angel is another 5, obviously some bits take longer than others so they arnt exact times in between. i mapped it out on gmaps and it was 13km not 14, id like to stress it wasnt like 22 on the dot, just when i stopped my mp3 player which was podcasting for the whole time, also i dont know where the 38km/h comes from because when i worked it out i got about 32/34 km/h

do any of you folks know a map program, kind of like g-map pedometer, on which you can plot multiple routes? I have about 7 permutations of my commute and it'd be a nice way to avoid doing any work this morning if I can plot them all on the same map and then find out all sorts of minutae about the different routes.

your modest joel, but i seen you coming down the road on your fixed, you certainly had the 'vigor' flowing through you and it took you about 50 yards to slow down, turn around and say hi.

To make you all feel better
Riding from Tooting Bec LU station to St James Park LU station = 30-35 mn - 8am weekdays (appx 12 miles per hour)The Streatham Common - Angel ride in 22 mn....
You didn't make people state the time of their journeys. We know traffic is a limiting factor.
There's fast, because you're riding fast.
And there's fast riding in traffic because you are insane.
I'm definitely not the fastest of riders. Jonny for example can slay me on a long open road.
Put me in traffic on my surly and I'm in my element. Lots of chopping and changing. switching sides, tight gaps. Beautiful.
