  • is that what rpm is doing these days?!!

  • hot damn'

The owner of this obviously rode at Welwyn before the resurface.. lol.

  • I love that bike. It's been up a few times but it's such a nice custom build.

  • I agree. I really, really like just how smooth and nice and clean everything looks.
If I ever go on one of those frame building courses I'm building a bike with an integrated seatpost.

  • why did he not re use those hubs, they are campy record track arnt they? also, i think the only improvment that he made with his upgrade was swaping stems. sorry for bringing up this bike again.

  • i think this is a fgg gem just for them posting his email address...

  • for some reason when i look at these pics, i have a brief inspection noting what features i like about it, and then really focus on how it is standing up - i think its a want to understand the magical aura that i associate with bicycles; when that magic is made more tangible, i.e. a self standing bicycle, it gives me a steadier format through which to explore... or something

  • in other news: i notice that the above bike has radial lacing for the front and mixed for the back - is this recommended? or do you ideally need more strength in the front wheel, say for turning and such? (i try not to think about the crashing aspect!!!)

edit: i bothered to do a search and found was rewarded with a superb result

  • ok whatever... I like ^that^ alot, though I'd have risers if I was the lucky owner.

  • and then i found this, i remember some one saying something about people that buy aero carbon track frames and then ride them on the road, i guess this guy didn't hear about it.

Yes, its mine. Its a carbon monocoque German Sports Institute bike - FES. Used to belong to Jens Fiedler. A bit on the heavy side by todays standards, but totally bullet proof

I for one am all for seeing full on track slavery hitting the roads . . . how the hell did you get your hands on that, must be rare as f@@k

  • love that bike, but I would've powdercoated it black, for the ultimate ninja fighting machine look. and it needs clipless pedals!

  • christ imagine what a cock you'd look like riding that silver thing around the city

  • why? its light, stiff, strong, i bet it flies.

  • why? because you would look like a cock.

  • maybe to a few people on fgss. to everyone else, you'd look like a guy on a bike.

  • No more of a cock than riding round on some museum worthy cliched puppy killer . . in fact most people probably think riding a fixed gear track bike on the road is only something a cock would do, certainly the reaction i get from a lot of other cyclists.

  • yeah. 1 gear? no brakes? track drops? cocks.

  • nah id rather ride a puppy killer and have a tattoo on my forehead of me and kanye west hugging, and wear diamond encrusted bape shoes and one of those clock necklaces like the dude out of run dmc had, than ride that bike.

so im overexagerating but i still dont like it

  • maybe to a few people on fgss. to everyone else, you'd look like a guy on a bike.

are you trying to imply that too many people on here care about the bikes they ride and shouldnt?

if you ride that silver monstrosity on the roads then you REALLY have to care about how you look on your bike, that is the furthest from a beater you can get. none of us need more than a beater. but we like our bikes.

  • why did he not re use those hubs, they are campy record track arnt they? also, i think the only improvment that he made with his upgrade was swaping stems. sorry for bringing up this bike again.

because I remember there's horror story about those track hub disintergated during heavy use on the street, fine for track, not so for street, at least that I think I remembered.

If you ride that silver bike because you think you look good on it - you are consciously presenting a certain image of yourself. "you REALLY have to care about how you look on your bike" as you put it.

If you wouldn't ride that silver bike because you think "you would look a cock (as you put it) you are still consciously presenting a certain image of yourself. In this case you feel people's perception of how you look on that bike would not be what you would like to present.

There is no difference, in both cases it is about presenting a 'good' self image, it's about what other people think of how you look on a bike - 'cool' or 'a cock'.

I also do think there is room for aesthetics that is not about self image at all - you can like the look of a bike without reference to how you yourself look on it. The two can be divorced fairly easily - in my mind at least.

I could build/customise/paint a bike and think it looks fucking great/crazy/cool/retro-tastic, really pleasing to look at and enjoy tinkering with it for weeks to get it how I want - if I then ride this thing it is not necessarily so that people think I myself look 'good' - nor even that they think the bike looks good, these things really can be for your own enjoyment, not to present anything to the public.

Think of the old duffer who restores a vintage 1920's car, thinks it looks wonderful, gets a sense of pride from all the work and craft that has gone into restoring it - and then rides it around in his oil covered overalls enjoying the sound of the engine not giving a shit (or even being conscious of) what other people think he looks like driving it.

People who get enjoyment from how thinks look are not necessarily all self conscious attention seeking pricks.
