  • Hello all,I am a girl who would very much appreciate some advice on cycling clubs please please please... I have been umming and erring about joining various clubs for a while now but unfortunately keep being put off (or maybe I'm a whimp!) I have contacted 3 different ones, and all of them have about minus other females. I'm really keen to put some long rides in etc, however I'm not fit enough at the moment to go at an average speed of 100mph for 700 miles. Does anyone have any recomendations? I don't mind cycling with men, its just my fear is that they will want to go faster and drill each other into the ground! I don't fancy this!Anyone got any ideas?Thankyou so much,Marmet.

  • Have a look here
There are a number of threads on LFGSS about their sunday rides too. I've not been on one/am not a member but it all sounds quite light hearted and inclusive.

  • London Dynamo has quite a few females. In almost every Richmond Park group I was in last year there were girls present.

You can speak to Kimberly who works at Cycle Fit if you want more information about London Dynamo.

the cycling club for people who don't want to join a "cycling club"

    or something

  • cool, thankyou i'll take a look. For the past few weekends I've been doing laps at Rp, the most girls I counted was 7. I looked at Rollapaluza too, they seem really relaxed, but I wander how hard core their club rides are...its always pretty hard to tell, guess I just need to bite the bullet and go along! ahhhhh

  • Dynamo split their Saturday tides into fast medium and slow. I enough girls turn up they cycle together. 9.00am Richmond Park Roehampton Gate with gears. Girls are nice and quite committed.

I usually only do laps of RP, sunday mornings.

but this weekend I was planning on doing the rolla club run.

it isn't going to be hard! it can't be because I won't keep up running 69 gear inches, fixed.

  • ah ok, the only thing it seems with the Saturday rides, is that they are often only about 30-35 miles and I'm looking for rides over 50 preferably. I will take a look at that one, hopefully they do longer ones too...I must say though after doing 2 weekends in a row of Rp, I wanted to slit my throat, it is mind numbingly boring, last time we ended up bowing out after 3 laps and went an explored instead. Exploring is fun!...especially when you find nice pubs for mid way refreshments!

  • BTW I'd check out Dulwich Paragon, very nice members and helpful website. Depends on where you live perhaps.

  • Dynamo do a 50 miler around Chertsey way on Wed evenings. Also a hilly ride to Boxhill area from Hampton Court Bridge Sunday mornings, you can check their newsletter for details.

  • @rpm, enjoy those hills + thanks for the recomendation! I confess I have gears...mmm I like my gears...I'm going to Devon this weekend, so hope to do a nice long ride on the Saturday, I'm sure it will probably rain! no room for fair weather riders there!wet socks!

  • @50/14 - thanks those could be good, I'm wandsworth way. Kind of have a few...in theory to choose from...Brixton, Dulwich etc, but willing to travel to find one I like. Thanks for you help.

  • you should have added that you're adorable.

  • maybe she isn't?

maybe "she" is actually a 47 year old lorry driver from Hull.
    Called Terry.

  • I'm saying she's a girl.

Marmet, I reckon you're cute. You lurked and saw a few lebowski references and thought - right - marmet. But you could have chosen a bunch of references and you went for a little cute looking animal that bites male members savagely if it gets into hot water with them.

I reckon you're hankering after a lfgss roll. We're doing Oxford weekend after next - it's about 60 miles.

  • Rpm-you got me, its me Terry + maybe marmet was a bad name to pick. They are cool though, except I like to think I don't stink!

  • you went for a little cute looking animal that bites male members savagely if it gets into hot water with them.

Actually that's a marm*o*t. The Americans call them woodchucks.

  • @plantini...the horror! A marmet, thats not even a marmot that can't spell! whops!

  • I'm also rather crap with computers, I saw 'bigdaddywayne' and 'clefty' very kindly sent me some recommendations to my visitors messages thingy me bobs, but my computer doesn't let me reply, dohhh! thanks for the help.

  • blah

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

  • How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

I wonder how far a woodchuck that wanted to chuck wood would go if i chucked it in a wood?

  • hey marmet, I'd be up for coming for some longer rides/finding a female friendly club (I'm a girl, honest!) - I'm really not feeling the vibe of the more well-known clubs and I'm not keen on the lycra look either, I just like riding without all the BS. I'm not superfit but I can happily go at a moderate pace all day. I've been doing some longer rides (between 75-110miles) with friends over the past few weeks - PM me if you want to come join us some time. I'm going to try to go on the Rollapaluza club ride on Sun too. Be good to hear what you find out too.

would you chuck it in a wood though?

  • would you chuck it in a wood though?

    I wood.
