It is meant to be a protest though. Cycling fast through 700 hundred people is a really bad idea and does nothing to help the cause of cycling in the city. You'll never get the mass to speed up.
To be honest the slow pace is why I don't go anymore, I'd much rather ride somewhere else with like minded people.
