It's not that cycling clubs are so elitist there are just a few rules to follow, often unwritten. It's not the fact that you're on a langster but that it's a ss/fixed gear bicycle. Wearing lycra also helps....

good luck on your next club run. Should try the Rollapaluza one but starts in East London. The're a bit more casual ;)
