I see a lot of inexperienced cyclists doing that coasting whilst standing thing (slightly forwards), as if parading around on a chariot in front of a Roman emperor or something. And I've seen people do it whilst emergency braking, with 'hilarious consequences'.
I think if you carry this bad habit over to riding fixed (or even the smallest inclination to get off the saddle), you're fucked, and doubly so due to what happens when you lock a leg.
If you get enough chance to adapt to constant pedalling, it would train these Ben Hur types into moving their weight as low and as far back as possible during braking, to keep the back wheel on the ground.
I can remember coming down Fitzjohn's Avenue (not that steep, but still definitely a downhill) doing 35mph in 46x17, and some twat pulling out of a side road and then stopping for no apparent reason in the middle of the road, leaving me about 10-15m to stop (at a guess). It's the only time my back wheel started to lift (despite almost having my arse on the back wheel), but I remembered to let go of the brake for a split second and all was well (except for a minor shoulder sprain from the force of bracing myself against the bars). There's just no way I could've skid-stopped in that time, but granted, I probably would've been going half as fast brakeless.
