"Tubular wheels do not have an inner-tube and are glued on the rim to hold them in place. Clincher wheels use inner-tubes and stay secure due to the tire bead/rim relationship and air pressure."

No tubulars do have inner tubes, the outer is sewn around them.

Thanks for the response guys.
So the clincher type is basically what everybody uses? -

Will have to pass now.

Tubs and punctures are a pain in the ass. I'm still selling one of my tubular wheels (Shifted the trispoke in days).

Scrapper, thanks for the pics.
What would be the benefit of tubulars then?
Are they lighter? -
• #12
they allow for higher pressure, so have a lower rolling resistance, and they do tend to be lighter, since the rim can be much smaller in profile.

basically riding tubulars on the street is a bad idea unless you have lots of time and money to waste.
If you get a puncture with a tubular you have to replace the tyre, unless you want to sit on the side of the road with a needle and thread sewing back up the tyre after you have fixed the puncture.

of course, there are also clincher tubulars, i think only made by Tufo:
Basicaly tubulars with rubber hooks on them that fit in clincher rims.
looks to me like a very cool system but i wonder if they're any good and any better than good clinchers... -

Ride quality was a little better than most clinchers I've used but, all in all, not something I'd buy again.

kinda what i figured it would be ;)
good to know.
A quick one guys.
Since my english is far from perfect, could you please enlighten me whether clincher rims are the same ones as wheels for tubulars?
I think so, but need to be sure.
Thanks!
