  • Hello everyone.
Looking around for a pair of nice new and affordable hubs for the new bike. A Condor branded set comes in @ £55 so seems good value and I would have thought they wouldn't put their name to shoddy kit. Has anyone ridden these or does anyone know anything about them?
    Thanks.

  • depends wether they are the good ones made for them by goldtec, or if they branded some other shit up

£55 sounds a bit cheap for a pair

  • apparently thy're goldtechs so should be good, just double check coz when i got this information they were about twice as much as the pricew you mentioned.

  • I believe the ones you're on about are made by Formula with a Condor branding on the barrel of the hubshell.

  • I've had two pairs. The hubs themselves are very good, but the washers that go on the inside of the dropout ( what are they called anyway? ) are made of cheese and will break and you'll have a bugger of a job finding replacements.

  • I have one on my rear wheel. Been running it for about two years without really doing much to it, and it's still running fine. I mean, it's not like a virtually frictionless dura ace track hub, but it's a fraction of the price. so for riding around town i reckon it's fine.

I was told they were made by suntour and branded for Condor.

  • Suntour? You sure you heard right? They've not made decent anything since the 80's maybe early 90's.

  • also try on one track hubs cheap but pretty durable in my experience (150 - 200 miles a week over nearly 2 years) they look like system x / formula hub to me.

  • These look ok from Parker's, although I've no experience of them:

  • the condor ones are miche rebranded.

  • since last year condor have added some lower budget track parts to their own brand, such as cheapo sugino cranks, cheaper hubs. I noticed though they had some funky lookin hubs in the shop though...with perfectly simmetrical high flanges, as usual, but instead of having just a regular cilinder connecting the two, something more in the shape of a cone: larger on one side than the other, it think the price on those was £55, and i would not have a clue what brand of those would be.
But if you want value for money just go for sistem x, formula, i have a wheelset built on those and it's still working fine.

I didn't have cotton wool in my ears. They may not have been selling abroad for a while but the company is still going. But I dunno, take it up with Jan in BLB, it was his opinion.

  • asymmetrical, condor-branded sounds like a Goldtec hub - ask Hamster, he's got them on his bike.
don't think they were that price though - he paid a pile more than that.

  • don't go to BLB bikes, i've read bad things about them on here

i have the asymmetric condors, and they are indeed made by goldtec, and are more expensive than standard goldtec

Suntour were bought out by SR in 1995ish - all their designs and technology were abandoned, though the name lives on.
They made some excellent bits 1980-95: XCpro, Superbe pro - very nice!

  • Thanks for all the replies. The Condor hubs have solid flanges whilst Formulas I have seen have cut outs, and my Miche Primatos have totally smooth, flush flanges (you've got to love a flush flange). The Condors' flanges are machined / lathed so they are gradiated. Going to see Arup now to get them laced to some Campag Atlanta rims. I'll lt you know how I get on.

  • I just bought a pair of these:

    £40.00, double-sided fixed.

winston any idea whether the front hub can be spaced to 110mm?

  • why would you want to do that?

  • don't go to BLB bikes, i've read bad things about them on here

    huh?!!! is this bikeforums.net suddenly?

  • piss
    he
    taking
    was

  • ...!

Actually, I spend much of my time in BLB slagging off lfgss

    :-)

  • not sure why you'd want to do that, I know tht the rears can go down to 110mm, will have a look when I get them back from the wheelbuilder...

I thought the new black condor hubs came from the same place as the black dia compes? Er. that'd be Dia Compe then.. Ive got the old condor branded silver formula/EXs.

Youre right about suntour. They may still be going, but they dont make anything nice any more.
