Mike, the Road Rat you were on ...how come you had a front rotor but no brake?
Time to stop fannying around men. There's no real hills in town, nothing to really make your mum worry about you. It's useless pretending or telling her otherwise. And let's not get into one about hills inside the M25/SE/Britain/UK!
(nb. That was a joke about skids).

Hi Chopsicle. The lack of front brake is pretty much down to my Mechanical expertise. I had to change the forks recently and upon doing so I removed the disc bake. Obviously I decided to try to prise the prisons apart with a screw driver and promptly cracked one of the pistons in the caliper causing it to get stuck! Dont ever ask me to help fix your bike!!
Evans say they should have a replacement piston for me within a week or so..

I still say Vanbrogh Hill is a killer and will challenge your soft north hills, it's short but pretty steep. Maybe half the problems I had with are that I have only ever ridden it on 76" and hence was barely moving.
Where's that then?

Oh dear, sorry to hear about the mechanical. On a Hope? Weird thing to happen, they're built strong as. Hope are bang on it though, get spares out next day, and are a doddle to work with. Evans on the other hand...
Which store is your local? - for the record I was a roaming mechanic for Evans for 3 years, sometimes FT, sometime PT. Happy days.

Strong they may be but they probably aren't used to dealing with idiots like me.
I took it to my local Evans which is Spitalfields. Have a friend who works in another branch and he said he will try and get them to hurry it upCheers

True, Sth London hills are longer and steeper - anyone ridden Donkey Alley in East Dulwich?
And Crystal Palace Park Road can be unpleasant after a long training ride - triply so at the end of Ride of the Falling Leaves...

mike - ha ha, Spitz was where I spent 'the autumn' of my mechanicing days, good workshop and nice bunch of guys in there. Some of the staff bikes are off the scale.
Bill - cheers for the tip, not ridden Donkey Alley but will put that into a hilly rep route I'm working out, Jerningham/Pepys Road are good fun if you happen to be in that area.

I'm sure you'll do it like there is nothing there but worth a play if you're in the area some other good hills around that area on the back roads and some more a bit further out by Bostal woods

From memory Brampton Road (Bostal woods)) while not killer steep has a fair rise on it. Many good hills on the back streets of Plumbstead, although watch out for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Courtney who lives in Camelot Castle with it's paper mache sniper.

No harm in learning Hillbillys no handed number after a few pints ;)

It's got a little steepness arrow on the streetmap equivalent, which is always encouraging. At first it looked like a weird circumflex accent over the 'N' of Greenwich, which made no sense at all :S

Succombs Hill in Surrey has three of those buggers!

But when there are 2 immediately next to each other, they cancel each other out, and the road is flat. It's scientific fact.

While you're all discussing hills i'll just say yes, I was on the ride, I had to bugger off quickly at the pub cause I realised I didn't have any cash/wallet/anything with me ...
And really, there are no hills in London.

It was good to get some riding in in a new part of London for me, thanks for making me feel welcome. I liked the little bumps we rode over I think it was called Swains something or other,
Cheers to the CTC and Theresa and Rapha for pulling it together.
@Chopsicle I didnt meet you but next time maybe as I also had to head back south of the river to Sidcup and could of joined you to New Cross.
