goodness dale. tell us what you really think...
- i think* the guy behind the counter has a point. he's probably sick to the back teeth of hipsters coming in with their piece of shit frames looking to fix them up for like, £3, then getting pissed off with everyone and everything when it doesn't go according to plan.

Shop service in the UK is a fucking joke no matter what kind of shop it is . . pretty much every shop i patronised has fucked up at one time, and excelled themselves at another. I find if you go into a shop pissed off, your never going to come out happy either.
Go to america if you want to be respected by shop assistants. However i think you are well within your rights to complain on here, as they did waste your day. If it was me i would have asked them to fit it for me in order to make up for fing me about. One of the great things about this forum is that it is very representive of what is a pretty tight community, and as such a lot of the users will have close links with many of the specialist shops out there, so your always going to get a firestorm of opinion.
Unfortunately most workers in bike shops, especially the more core ones, are either day dreaming about the next part they are going to get at cost for their build, or talking to their mate who has just popped in for a 3 hour chat. Same sh!t in skate shops and the like.

I love BC but have found that particular guy a bit annoying. I wanted to buy a cheeeeeap rear wheel to kick start my fixed build when I had next to no money with no prospect of much more coming in. I asked him for their cheapest rear wheel, he asked what it was for, I said "just a cheap fixed wheel build", he said "you can't do that!", I said " I can, just respace it, redish it, rotafix and BB lockring, its not for anything special." He just shrugged his shoulders and looked down his nose a bit at me. Maybe its just him, bit snobby. Didn't really bother me too much, just saying I've had the same less than great service from the same guy in another wise great lbs. He laughed at my bike the other day too, but I deserve that.
Oh and I don't think BC actually have any managers as such to complain to seeing as they're a co-op, so any grudges would have to be resolved with whoever you have an issue with.

Is that not just doing your job well? Where did the £3 come from.

The service that Me has received is rubbish.
But if he hasn't complained to the shop direct, and then comes on here to denigrate the shop that's pretty rubbish too. Someone ought to email BC and give them the chance to correct this. Like maybe Me.
I too have received bad service in shops. It happens, and I either complain at the time or keep shtum because life's too short and never go back. I definitely do NOT use a public forum and pseudonym to make allegations without giving right of reply. That's out of order, I'm afraid, and in no way justified by the original mistake.

USA: Fake service from a fake person.
UK: Bad service from a real person.I'd rather know where I stand than feel thouroughly uncomfortable when someone goes through the motions of being nice. So I'll take the shit UK service any time.

I used to work in retail years ago and I learnt valuable lessons - never pre-judge anyone.
Although most customers especially in sale time are complete tonsils ;-)

I know the guys at BC pretty well, and I can't say that I recognise them in this description.

Thanks for a little support there. For a minute there I thought I wasn't allowed an opinion. Just reading what db wrote makes me realize that there are a few forum nazi's onboard

Just a bit of a tip for people wanting advice from bike shops.
DON"T GO IN AT THE WEEKEND.
It's the bussiest day in the retail week and quite often bike shops have to employ extra staff to serve the increase in numbers. Good/knowledgable staff are hard to find let alone keep.
To be blunt, I don't give a shit. Sounds harsh maybe, but any shop worth their salt will not only make sure they have enough staff to cover what will undoubtedly be busy periods, but if they want to maintain their reputation they'll make sure even the weekend staff are polite and knowledgeable.
Wishful thinking I know, but like a lot of people I work during the week, so unless I'm lucky enough to "work from home" for a day, I'm not going to have the luxury of popping by at a time when the shop's likely to be less busy.

You have the right to an opinion, but with that right comes responsibility. Sorry if you aren't grown up enough to understand that.
