  • Before you go swapping round cranks, have you tried a shorter bottom bracket? Also, you may need to install the spider on the outside of the chainring.

Sounds like you have the right BB for the crank Is it the cheap black RPM track crank?,
read the above page to make sure you are measuring it right.
It should be alot cheaper to swap the BB rather than the crank.

  • RPM with the supplied ring on the outside and a 103 does give 42mm in my experience.

  • Most chainrings don't have a dish at all - the RPM chainrings do have a dish, but if anything it should bring it nearer to the centre. Unless you have it on the wrong way round...

They're also possibly the shittest chainrings I've encountered.

  • [edit] .. crap technical suggestion removed.

  • Just fitted a set of Sugino RD cranks with the standard Sugino 103mm BB. This seems to give me about 45mm chainline in a 68mm BB shell, what happened there? Does RD stand for Road Double?

Also the RD's look poorly finished compared to others I've seen. I suppose you-pays-your-money.. etc.

  • Stronglight St-1000 never used...165mm..with 47/49 1/8 chainring.inc chainring bolts.....cranks never used....choice of Shimano UN 72 107mm BB for a 45 chainline..ie Goldtec........or sugino 103mm [unused]..for a 42mm chainline..Cambridge area...will post..or you collect....£80 + p&p..

    pm....if you are interested?
