I don't stint on stuff really, but I would find it hard to spend £7,000 on one bike. I'd rather have say, one new top range Felt (with Zipp 404's) triathlon at £4,500, and one really nice mtb new Santa Cruz for £2,500. The most I would spend on a frame is £2,650 for a new Prince, and that is because its a recent product and R and D costs have to be met. II doubt this retail price will remain and I expect it to drop below £2,000 by this time next year. However if I was a cat 1 racer . . . I'd choose a Museeuw and fck the cost.
