I got my bike (columbus tubing, full dura-ace kit, mavic monthlery pro tub rims blaablaablaa) for 215 squid equivalent. I thought it was a pretty good deal, even though I did have to replace the tires quite soon. It came with that badass Benotto handlebar tape, which is kind of like a film, reminds me of REALLY REALLY REALLY condensed cork which has been waxed, actually its more like wax paper. but it's fuckin excellent.

Don't look to freaks on the internet to validate the choice you make in life.

I try to spend less than it's value but defiantly spend way less than it's worth.
You've been acting defiantly a lot recently, Tommy.

well asking freaks onthe internet is the sense of a forum, isn't it? ;)

Started with £765 for the Gazelle, but spent bundles since, two sets bars, NOS Brooks, Lyotard platforms, chainrings, chain tugs, sprockets, etc.

Am currently building one that will be pricey, but less than my priciest.
bikes in the past have ranged from my hack (£120) to my Bob Jackson - both now sold.
Over the year my total expenditure of bikes has totally balanced out. Now I only have 1 fixed though, and that was not cheap, but 'worth every penny.Am currently about to receive a polo bike for £28, though, so less than 100 could be broken with ease. And am speccing up a replacement for my bob jackson, which won't be more than £700 in total (due to parts I have lying around).
My day to day at the moment is a full pantographed super-record moser 10 speed though.
Everything I have bought and then sold has basically evened out, maybe minus £50- which is good.
And I'm basically done buying bikes. I have what I want and I have to get rid of some. Watch this space.....

Bikes can get silly expensive, just on silly small things.
Money is no object for having the pleasure of riding your custom machine.
I think everyone would agree on that, making the question "how much does it cost" irrelevant. -

new bike's pushing $450. my beater is about $60. new bikes worth about $800. when i get my campy record cranks in i'll have spent about $700 on it.
i have a super beater that is going to be a fun project, but the weight of the frame (and the fact its like way to small for me) has me hesitant of dropping to much money into it. so far i have 30 into it for new wheels.

Nice bike - £1300
Pub bike - £200
Really nice bike - £3500I like that way of putting it.
Pub - £350
Commuter - £2,100
Nice bike - £7,000-ishAs other people say, it soon adds up. £20 to improve the headset, £5 to improve it again, a few more times over and you're buying a Chris King and wondering where your idea of building a cheap bike went.
I'm seriously thinking of dropping money on a Charge Plug because the other bikes are at the point where I don't lock them outside.

ever since spunking a large sum of dorra on flash wheels I've been shitting myself about leaving them anywhere.
having good wheels is nice, but so is not having to nip out of the pub every 30 seconds to check they're still there

this is precisely the reason i'm still riding a fuji track.

if i had the space i would do the same but with an even cheaper bike (if possible)
when you realise your saddle and seatpost would cost £250 to replace it's time to think hard about where you can leave your bike.

I don't stint on stuff really, but I would find it hard to spend £7,000 on one bike. I'd rather have say, one new top range Felt (with Zipp 404's) triathlon at £4,500, and one really nice mtb new Santa Cruz for £2,500. The most I would spend on a frame is £2,650 for a new Prince, and that is because its a recent product and R and D costs have to be met. II doubt this retail price will remain and I expect it to drop below £2,000 by this time next year. However if I was a cat 1 racer . . . I'd choose a Museeuw and fck the cost.

mines somewhere around 1350, including R&D costs

Klein ~ £3000
Electron ~ £2000That's the stuff on the bikes, the stuff hidden in draws and cupboards, on the shelves, under the floorboards, in the shed must come to a few hundred quid, maybe even a grand or two (!!)

The problem with own builds are every time you make a buying decision the next best decision is only a few pound$ away so you talk yourself into making the £20 leap up and then making another leap and before you know it getting a set of carbon bars that should have cost a ton has turned into buying some Cinelli Ram bars in white for £450.
As long as I can afford it, I'll continue to spend it. If you think you'll regret it then don't buy it but for me the difference is nearly always worth it.
hmm dura ace 7600 for £70 sounds like a good deal.
