those pedals / cranks are proprietory - so you have to change both or neither.
They may be collectable and I think the idea was to align the axis of rotation (of the pedal) with the bones of teh feet rather than have the foot sitting above the pedal axis.
I'm quite jealous! -

If you do decide to go fixed - can I be on the list to maybe get those pedals and cranks off you? :-P
I have the same ones on my recently acquired Koga Miyata road bike and missed out on getting a spare set on Ebay the other week.

the hole is way bigger than normal because it also houses the bearings. Look up Dura ace dyna drive for more info.
Please don't strip the bike down to convert to fix/single speed. It's beautiful as is.

Steel wool and then wax for the patches of rust.

Originally you would use cycle-shoes + cleats for those pedals, all clips+straps systems are originally designed to be used with cycle-shoes and cleats.

What kind of wax?

I got the whole bike for €270 = £215, and the dude i bought it from has another one for sale now. Btw i'm located in Finland
Hai
I got my hands on an old DBS road bike from the 80's, Columbus tubing, tub rims and full Dura-Ace EX kit (I'm totally in love with it). The pedals are toe-strappy ones, and one day as i was riding along i noticed the soles of my feet getting quite sore (I wear crappy sneakers). This got me thinking; are the pedals meant for some kind of special shoe? Or just normal shoes with stiffer/harder soles?
Also, what's that connection standard between the crank arm and pedal? It looks way bigger than the 9/16" i'm used to on my MTB. Anyone have any idea?
THe bike also had some rusty specks on it (especially on the spokes and the fork [see pic]). How might I get that best off? With some steel wool, or some kind of corrosion remover?
Last question: should I go fixed? I'm torn by this question; on the other hand, the Dura-Ace bits function so wonderfully that it would be a real shame to move them from the bike into a plastic bag. Also, the finishing on the bits is imho fkkin awesome. Then again, my friend has a fixie which i've often tried and I've always been interested in finding what it would be like to ride one long-term and in a proper urban environment. Opinions please.

Sorry for the crappy pics, my camera won't focus where i'd like it to. And yes, I know the hoods aren't perfectly compatible; they were the best I could find at the time. And I do know the bike is neither SS or fixed, I just couldn't think of a better place to ask!
E: Also, does anyone have anything to say about Cinelli Giro D'Italia drop bars + quill stems? I have a set on the bike, but I can't really find any hard info on their placement in the product range/compared to other bars+stems...
