Your bike shop should be able to sort you out with the cog. langster comes with 48x18 gearing i believe which is reasonable, not sure about the tricross. If you go much above 48x18 you'll just be spinning and getting nowhere, hills or not! The current langster model for the UK isnt exactly a great looking bike what with all the silly decals, if thats an issue with you that is.

The dark/racing green langster looks nice, much better than the 2007 London Langster, Condor has a few in stock.

Dark/racing green? is it one of the other city themed ones?

No, I think it is the 2005 or 2006 design.

they have a standard 2007 which is the racing green as well as the 'special' edition city ones

Kelvin they have a standard 2007 which is the racing green. . .
That must be the one !
The slopping top tube is not my cup of tea, but maybe this is just a very large frame size, it looked much nicer in the medium that was in Condor, much less slopped.

i have the geared Tricross - it's a good ride, geometry is nice. i reckon a SS version would be cool. plus you can put some fat tyres on it and take it off-road.

Digging up an old thread...if I decide not to build a bike, I'd totally be interested in these two bikes...but the decision between them is way too difficult.
Anyone have any more information on it than what's in the thread already? Anyone ridden both? Preference?
I want to do some long rides--70-100 miles with the singlespeed (which in itself is probably crazy). Not too sure about offroading it, mostly park trail riding if anything (like Richmond Park).
How bad would it be for a woman to be riding this all the hell over London? Not that I particularly care, but is it 'burly manish'?

Langster would be no good if you planned doing any amount of offroading. Clearances are too tight; you can't fit tyres bigger than 23mm in. If you're even doing primarily park trail riding, I imagine you'll probably want 28mm tyres on, so the Tricross is probably a better bet.

I have both, a 54cm Tricross and a 54cm Langster (2008). For commuting comfort and general durability the Tricross is my choice, but I 8 miles of my commute is on very shitty country lanes.
The langster feels much faster but is really best of good surfaces so I keep it for sunnydays and Sundays.T..d.e .i.

The Tricross is a fairly aggressive/assertive looking bike but not one that would call butch or manish. It's design is more sleek and curvy than the Langster so don't think it would nessecarily compromise your femininity.

Digging up an old thread but need more info on rider experience on the 2 bikes. I currently have both and want to get rid of 1. Frame wise, we all know the langster is very light for the money (1350g for a 54) whereas the singlecross is ~1550-1600g in medium (i've verified both). I'm not a fan of the overbuilt tricross fork (840g uncut) and long chain stays (~440mm) though its great for running monstercross tyres. Both stock wheelsets are kinda heavy though not bad.
Ride quality is similar on both with same wheels, tyres and seat. Any cited comfort on the tricross probably comes from the fact the wheel is that extra bit behind you although the sloping top tube of the langster exposes more seatpost and hence, some welcome flex. The tricross has less cockpit space making for an upright riding position. I like the langsters nippyness and missile like speeds however the tricross offers stability and the possibility to attack straight on obstacles found on the urban assault course that is the london commute. -

I picked up a 2008 Tricross singlespeed and I still love it dearly. I borrow a mate's Langster every now and again and while the twitchiness is fun, I'm 110Kg and feel like it's going to snap if I so much as look at a kerb funny. I think it's a bit of a shame they discontinued them after the 2009 model: as an allrounder for around £500 I don't think you could go far wrong.
Hello
I'm about to by my first ss for commuting to work. As it's through a Bike to Work scheme I only have a choice of the the Spec. Langster or Tricross? Any suggestions. Also there are quite a lot of hills around here (Yorkshire)is it poss. to get a 20 rear cog to make things a lit easier to start with?
Cheers
