  • scott gon be broke i changed it once to 'Next100%Off2Andashotwithyourwifeandherfriend'....best bloody package i ever recieved through the post!
    lol

  • Hey Clefty,

Did you have any luck getting money back on the warranty?

Same thing happened to my Steel-o-flex first time I used it, had to call an emergency locksmith to get my bike home. Thread here

Sent my lock back to wiggle, with locksmith receipt and broken key. They sent it off to Abus for "investigation". Heard back today, they'd cut a new key which worked fine so nothing wrong with the lock and no money back for me... Shouldn't the key be covered by the warranty too? I'm well pissed off about this

Also, this seems to happened to quite a few people, guess the general consensus is not to buy Abus stuff

  • Hiya, I got exactly the same answer as you - I tried to argue as well without success.
It seriously pissed me off at the time, needless to say I boycott Abus now. Kryptonite all the way for me. Some people swear by the steel-o-flexs, they are a great idea and I would get one if kryptonite made em ;-)

  • bollocks, suspected that. Just sent Wiggle an email trying to argue that the key should be part of the warranty, it kinda make sense I think

Guess I'll be getting a kryptonite chain now, but the weight seriously puts me off... also crashing with a chain around your waist would mess up your hips quite a bit?

  • I did that too, they were helpful but ultimately unhelpful.
I dont wear my krypto chain round my waist as it stays at work but few guys here do and they say its actually fine
    I got mine from here
    much cheaper than wiggle.

  • I've been using a Steel-O-Flex for years with my fairly expensive mountain bike, leaving it all over London after nights on the booze (even left it in Camden on the high street for two days after starting a bender there! - ah, the heady days of student life) and my bike was fine, the lock didn't even look as though it had been touched. This isn't to say that it survived anything, but it almost certainly put off potential scumbags. Have transferred it's use to my fixed now, although am severly tempted to get a Kyrptonite NY to accompany it. But God they're heavy.

  • So got final word from wiggle

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately a broken key is not covered by warranty. Unless there is a obvious material defect there isn't really any way a key can be faulty, since there was no sign of a material defect such as discolouration or bubbles this was not considered a faulty part. Thank you
    "

apart from randomly snapping, that was one well functioning key. no more abus for me, and no more wiggle

  • tbh i didnt blame wiggle for this, I got the refund of the lock itself, just not the locksmith charges.
Its Abus who are the bad guys in my book
However as VV says. Kryptonite all the way!

  • yeah i was hoping / expecting that too, but didn't even get that. Guess you're right, you can't really blame wiggle but they could either refund me as a nice gesture or something i dunno

  • Kryptonite knew their locks could be opened with a pen for years, but they continued to sell those circular-key locks until enough people knew about it. God know how many people lost their bikes because of them.

Their chain got cut in only a few seconds, taking far less time than they claimed it would take

    so Fuck Kryptonite.

  • Their lock exchange program was very efficient though, when it got under way, assclown.

  • really? well then, i take it all back.

  • yay, my squire kicked ass!
can buy from holdsworth in putney!!!

  • really? well then, i take it all back.

    You'd better, bumtrapezeartist.

  • the only difference is that most people lock a chain off the ground and tight to the frame, so the tests that are carried out are only relevant to people who lock up incorrectly

  • That's irrelevant wrt their BIC multi-key locks though..
(I own two Kryptos and an Abus and don't leave good bikes out long)
