Don't bother with the patent just come up with a fancy ad package & sell it!
Look at how well the T'shirts sold! Give it 4-5 months and you could sell those T'shirts for twice the price to all the fashionable chaps who have seen them around.
Same rules apply here!
You could extend to clothes... A Cameo style cod piece would be one for the night ride?
