Has anyone crashed because of a puncture?

  • Out of the punctures i´ve had, luckily they´ve all gone down gently, but not looking forward to the day i´m decending and the tube/tyre explodes, does this happen? :S During many years of mtbing i´ve never had anything causing me to crash, but on bikes with narrower tyres and much higher pressures I imagine this could be more. . . hmmm, interesting. What do you know?

  • I had a tub roll off my back wheel at 60mph around 20 years ago - that was deeply unpleasant but I managed to stop. Now if had been the front...

  • No, popped a front tyre but all that happens is that your steering goes all spongy, you slow down, stop look at the sky and cry out:

"Damn you God, damn you !!"

  • Unless you're Cornelius last weekend..

  • I skid through my rear (ha!) until it pops before changing tyres. It's got me good at patching tubes, plus it's hilarious when a street full of foreign exchange students duck and scream because they think they're being shot at :D

It's never caused me problems, but I wouldn't like it to happen to the front.

  • nope. had a wobble and a swear but no bang = crash.

i nearly had an accident in my pants the other day when my tyre went as i was pumping it up to 120. my girlfriend was two rooms away and screamed in fright. my ears were ringing for the rest of the day.

  • I've had a few blowouts at speed but the results were pretty much as VB stated.
One, I had to leave the bike at a service station and pickup the next day. Always carry spares!

  • Starting to sprint out of the saddle when all of a sudden 120PSI leaves my rear tube through a small hole, blowing my tyre off my new rim. Which sends the back end skidding out from under me... Happened twice now. Both times have been months after new tyres and tubes, so not where I have pinched it after a tyre change.
Thankfuly its never happened on the front...

  • You need to stop putting out so much power in the sprint :)

  • i've blown out many a tyre riding bmx and jump bikes.
even when it blows out suddenly, it doesn't really cause you loose control.
HTFU and ride around on those bare rims!

  • had a front tyre blow out on me last week like a gunshot. it's quite frightening in traffic (not fun when you have a bus right up your jacksie and a metal fence blocking your path off the road).

no catastrophic loss of control, so it was ok. i was only doing about 15km/h (dodging around a taxi and aforementioned bus).
