I'm not sure either... but apparently that Gildan Small is the closest thing they have to an American Apparel small which is the yardstick for a great size small. And chest size != pit to pit size. All I know is that the printers are convinced that this small is a real small as in it's not too large like the bamboo shirt was.
I don't have a sample of this as that would delay everything another week and as we've got the M, L and XL sorted I'm willing to go with the printers that the S is a neat fit in that sizing range and is definitely not an XS or M.
