  • been lurking but thought i'd pop up to reply to this thread (hi):

i ride round glasgow, i've got a plug with flat bars, green timbuk. i've seen quite a few other riders/bikes. there are a load of other plugs going round, most ive seen have been freewheeling tho. theres a massive sized bianchi pista i see parked up at the uni, often see fixed riders when im in gear on gibson street- girl with dreads, guy with a nice old bianchi, but i run away. there is a group of riders i think - the millportloco people, but ive never met them. from when i first found out about fixed a couple of years ago to now there has been a massive increase in the number of fixed bikes i see, but its still a tiny number.

weirdly there is also a strange empty glasgowfgss.com forum just sitting there like a ghost.

  • got any photos of your bike and face?ha

  • saucy

  • Now I'm feeling (pseudo)homesick.

Anyone ever made it up Scot st by the art school riding fixed?

Sounds good. I'm from Glasgow. Living near Middlesbrough right now but I get up for most weekends. I'll be up permanently from mid August and I'll definitely be at Millportpoloco with my flat mate who also rides fixed that I'll drag along.

On a related note. I rode from Newlands, along kilmarnock road, fenwick road, ayr road and out to the Eaglesham moores and back down the A77 on saturday. Geared because those hills would kill you on fixed but I'd recommend it to anyone in Glasgow as a good training ride. Was 28 miles.

  • Oh, This might be the perfect oppertunity to launch a site that I've had sitting in the corner of the internet for a month. There's zero content on it so far but I thought it'd be a good thing for the Glasgow fixed gear scene.

    Ta-Da!

I was reading on someones flickr a while back that he made it up it on a bike with 88 gear inches?!?!

and chris, yeh your right im a cunt for liking the look of the narrow bars though:(

  • RUSTY, you own the Glasgowfgss site? ive applied for membership and it says its pending request, so if you own it........

  • Hey hey hey. Think of all the nights that I logged on and found no new applications. I had gotten used to it. Now there's applications It'll take me a while to realise that they need approved. I'll start checking it more often and hopefully soon enough we'll have a community of our own and we can start shouting at people for joining and selling things and maybe even one day we'll have our very own version of the arrospok.

  • rusty ill look out for you at the millport race,
    what kinda bike you ride?

i think ive asked already but who else is going to the millportpoloco?

I have a 2007 Fuji track. Hopefully we'll have seen much more of each other by then.

  • what date is it on? and "millport" would suggest its in millport.....eh.....wheres that?ha

  • i'm in glasgow...the roads are rough and hurt my wrists

  • Inviting oneself to a courier event when one is not a courier seems...well, ever so slightly rude. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned...

  • which roads are you referring to exactly?

sauchiehall st (the pub&club half of it) is a joke how rough it is, it needs a resurface.

p.s i didnt realize it was just a courier event, i was just informed it was an event that took place. i appologise.

You can find out info here as it becomes available. I think last year there was an urban keirin in Glasgow on the friday night and then the main TT was on the saturday followed by skidttles etc.

I read that it's not a courier event. Open to all it said somewhere.

  • i ended up at it last year and the people were all real cool to talk to,
even though i might have seemed a cunt as it was when i first started riding fixed.

I dont think they have a problem with non-courier types showing up?

  • Well if we all turn up we could take 'em. There's 5 of us here. My flat mate's coming and he's big. We could take 'em!

  • haha yeh!
and they have dread locks to swing them by too

  • Anyone read the article in Borne about Glasgow couriers? I'll see if I can scan it in but I might not be able to until the weekend. It's a good read. Talks about a courier named James who broke his collar bone riding brakeless down Scott street.
