Snapped Spokes

Posted on
  • Right, just went to give my chain a quick wipe down after the long ride yesterday and i've noticed i've snapped a spoke, it's rear drive side,

i have now snapped 5 spokes on this wheel, its ambrosio hub with a ambrosio evolution rim, is it something im doing or not doing, admittedly i know nothing about wheels

but keep my bike in a good condition, clean etc and hadnt noticed any loose spokes and i dont regulalry bump up and down kerbs

  • Check the rest of your spokes for marks - often if the chain jumps off the cog into the spokes it causes enough damage to weaken the spokes.

  • Spoke tension is way too low. Might have been high enough in the first place, but the spokes could have been twisted and gradually loosened, causing them to break.

If you got them built by someone, take them back.

  • Is it a factory built wheel? They never have enough tension in the spokes and break break break all the way home. They're not stress relieved either. Get someone who knows how to build wheels to sort it out, with correct tension in all your spokes.
