Wow this thread is unbelievable. One joke comment being blown up out of all proportion. I thought I over reacted to things.

why is it hosted in usa vb?
Best hosting there is. The hardware is cheaper there, the datacenters are cheaper, and the peering points many and cheap.

I did give him a chance to pop a chill pill. He's not banned though, just slowing him down so he gets a chance to relax before discovering he's able to post again. Hopefully he'll be a bit calmer and not blow his top once he's able to post and stuff.

Oh, and if anyone is wondering about by what cruel method I've slowed him down:
- Slow response (time delay) on every page (20 to 60 seconds default).
- A chance they will get the "server busy" message (50% by default).
- A chance that no search facilities will be available (75% by default).
- A chance they will get redirected to another preset page (25% & homepage by default).
- A chance they will simply get a blank page (25% by default).
- Post flood limit increased by a defined factor (10 times by default).
- If they get past all this okay, then they will be served up their proper page.
The chances of actually getting to where you want to get to is about 7%, with considerably delay. So you never know... he might just be able to respond... if he's lucky.
I'll put him back to normal tomorrow sometime.

That's just cruel. Didn't you read his earlier posts on other threads where he said some totally reasonable stuff that you just didn't get? It's discrimination of the highest order against people with a dyslexia that only manifests in the inability to syntactically discriminate (irony) between 'your' and 'you're' despite repeated visual cues.
And it's a gay thing to do, which I've noticed a lot of other moderators doing recently.

Ah, you've been on bikeforums recently then? Did you notice the creation of the Tarck bike forums?
I'll not ban someone for being a twerp, I'll just give them the opportunity to calm down and think about presenting themselves as something other than a twerp.
As I've said before I'd rather not moderate at all. But that's partly down to you to solve as you shouldn't be feeding the trolls and should help calm down the ones that get wound up.

I was taking the piss. And I wasn't aware that any other cycling-related forums existed. Are they as shit as this one?
I don't think you should moderate. I think you should extreme.

Isn't this unfair ? I certainly think so
I have found BLOWIE BEN'S posts to be way way beyond the mark, do you want to make any public statements about his posts ?
VB you are NOT being even handed.

VB you are NOT being even handed.
I think I'll try not to be. I cannot please everyone all the time, I'll always offend someone if I take action, and if I take none others will despair and wonder why I would just watch a couple of people make a fool of themselves at the expense of the entire forum (quality).
Besides, if I have to be even-handed it would force me to be a politician. I've tried that before on other websites I run. Politician is a shite job and I don't want it.
Benevolent dictator who will mostly ignore you and let you get on with things but who will temporarily strike you down should you too closely resemble a troll. That's what I think I'll aim for. But mostly, I'll try not to do anything at all. Whatever I do, you can be sure someone somewhere will feel it's not even handed.
For the record though, I don't even like this job. I love that the forum exists, but a part of me still likes the idea of someone else having had started it and being the target of posts like that, it's not like work doesn't stress me enough.
Even handedness is for fence-sitters.
