never had pedal strike, 170mm cranks and highish bb. once tested out the angle i would have to lean to to strike, it was mad steep, slave steep, not going to happen.
touch wood
Same here I have to put the bike over at a crazy angle to get the pedal to meet the floor, even factoring in shoes it's a real comedy angle, if the bike was ever at that angle I would already be lying in the road somewhere further back, long before the pedal strike.
(165mm / high BB / clipless / slow like a donkey in the corners)

I've heard you corner like you're on rails...
-

Yep, I did the same a while ago too. I think that my tires would lose grip and see me on the floor before pedal strike. I'm still not that keen to push my luck though, mainly because there is always some cunt in a car right behind me, waiting to run me over should I stop moving forward and end up on the floor.

That's the one !
It's the same except I had it powder coated white with fluro orange struts and a green rail, it looks pretty fucking slavey to me.

never pedal struck riding fixed, but i'm another one who had a moment at Eastway - few laps into the race, first corner after the start/finish - was right on the inside, in the bunch, pedaled through the corner, caught a pedal strike and the back wheel jumped off the road, i nearly bit a chunk out of the saddle and from the gasps and "oh, shits!" from the guys behind me - so did they. As it happened I didn't hit the deck and take them all with me, but fook know how.

Only 1 road-strike here - on the usual corner + speed hump combo. Not at speed happily.
More than I should have kerb-strikes. Too much squeezing though too small gaps. My pedals look well battle-scarred.

I tested the angle on my bike before I set off home last night. At best 30 degrees form upright before strike. Resulted in me being more cautious going round corners last night and this morning :) Lets see how the old/new bike fares when I build it up again in a few weeks, I think I ned some smaller pedals for a start.

is that a road conversion?
-
• #35
I've probably had it sub-10, or even sub-5 times on my old KHS. Never bailed because of it though. Hasn't happened on the new bike. Although I was on the KHS all day every day, so statistically, all things being equal, it was bound to happen more.

only ever on kerbs for me... but that was regularly for the first few weeks of riding fixed. Then I learned to overtake on the outside :-)
Undertaking is a fast way to get to the undertakers.

No. Now to ostracise myself.
It's a mountain bike (26" wheels) with one inch tyres, thus lowering the BB. The cranks are either 175 or 180, i never checked, the whole purchase of them was a complete shambles. And big DX copy flat pedals. -

mtb's have a low b/b height, and probably 175's, and running big platforms......................you will get strike :(

Well the purchase was started as a new mountain bike to free up my old one for beater commuting duties. The curiosity in fixed started part way through the build (it took nearly 12 months)
I'm going to stop riding fixed soon because I want to use my mountain bike for what it was intended so i'm rebuilding the old bike :(
But as i said in my first post, the incedents of stike I have had have not caused me any major problems, just raised my heartrate a little. -

like i said in the last thread, its happened twice in as many days, pushing hard round a corner but it was the smellest of nudges, with shorter cranks i cant see how this could happen really

I clip the front edge of my toeclip off the road a lot, but i've never actually clipped the pedal itself. Now when I'm pacing it round corners I just keep my feet level.

Are you a very toe-down rider? (and do you have your saddle quite high?)
Does the a in asm stand for Anquetil...

i thought you rode fixed???

Anyone got a recommendation as to some good, low profile standard pedals?

i think he means pedals flat, as opposed to pointing the toe like a ballerina.....
rather than cranks parallel to the floor -

I'm on a 175mm crank, and a peugeot conversion. I'm not sure, but I think that this might be a problem?

on my fuji track ive only ever had it when racing somone and going for it, or messing about doing really tight figure 8s. i dont really consider it much of a problem and havnt fallen becuase of it.

I've never had pedal strike on my fixed, was talking about this with Lucas yesterday when we stopped for the mid-ride pint and we decided it would be pretty hard to get the pedal down that far. I'm still pretty new to fixed so tend to take it slower on tight corners.
Have had it happen on my racer though, luckily not bad enough to throw me off, but enough to kick out the rear wheel and shake me up a bit. -

it just feels like a long crank is all. i'll let you know if i end up face down ;)

i whacked the floor yesterday and it nearly threw me off :s
first time ever.
Yeah, I've done it more times with gears too - over-zealous out-of-the-saddle accelerations out of tight corners whilst either yo-yo-ing off the back, or trying to stay out in front. Gives the spectators something to talk about :p
