F**ckin bastard. At least the police knows the driver and is looking for him. They should then take him to that cafe' where the cyclists usually hang out for some "proper justice".

stuff like this amazes me!
They mention they will probably charge the driver with - "failing to stop at the scene of an accident and negligent or dangerous driving." - I wonder why not attempted murder?

AFAIK negligent driving carries a maximum penalty in Australia of around 10 years' jail. He'd probably be looking at a few years jail - he's basically used his car as a weapon in large number of assaults.
The guy is lucky nobody was killed (apart from the obvious reasons). Then he'd be up on culpable driving causing death, which has a maximum penalty of about 20 years.
My mind is spinning that a person could be such a bastard.

It'd be very hard to get a murder charge stick for something like this, but I'd like it if the police started treating these kinds of incidents as 'assault with a deadly weapon'.
No comment on Oz law, hope it is as strict as batmy says.

The other thing I though would be a good deterant for dangerous driving would be a poster campaign of some of the really grim looking injuries people sustain from bad driving - like the smoking ones of grotty lungs etc. Might make people in cars think?

Mashton, I've wondered "why the hatred" myself, and I guess that it must have something to do with those types of drivers hating the fact that they have to share (what they think is) THEIR road with other slower users. Were it a car, they'd go horn-mad. These people keep psychologists busy. As for the aussie driver - somebody should hurt him, plain and simple.

Oz law is fucked. The cunt will probably get a 12-month suspended sentence and a $500 fine.

If it was proven he was going 1kph over the limit however, he'd be strung up and gang raped by angry kangaroos before being sent to new zealand to serve the rest of his life as a bungie jump assistant.

Some might feel this is a deliberate attempt to be controversial. but its not.
Obviously the driver was a cunt. I feel it necessary to make that clear from the offset.
But......whats does concern me is the "why the hatred". The guy deserve to be tied to the ground have have the riders one by one cycle over him. But I can fully understand why here in London drivers and pedestrians (not all) are pissed with cyclists. I every day experience the city as a pedestrian and cyclist and previously as a motorcyclist and car driver, oh and the odd van as well.
As a pedestrian I have kicked a cyclist off his bike for jumping a red light and nearly knocking me over. As I was crossing I dropped something and went to pick it up. The cyclist had passed a van on the right and went straight over, obviously as i had bent down he couldn't see me but thats no excuse for it. As a driver it was annoying sitting at the lights watching cyclists go straight through, but for me it wasn't the end of the world. but I can understand the frustration.
There are many bad drivers on the roads. there are many bad cyclists on the road as well. there are also bad pedestrians as well. The type who step out from behind a parked van to cross a busy road when theres a pedestrian crossing 20 yards away.
In the commute this evening I was waiting for someone at a tube station and bizarrely counted the number of cyclists crossing a set of traffic lights. I got to 50 and got bored. 42 jumped the lights.
I have kicked the door mirrors of a few cars where the drivers have cut me up in cycle lanes and done the old left turn signal later shit. the reaction is always one of shock but no one has decided to have a punch up with me yet. I very cockily reply use it or lose it. When I've had a near dangerous accident because of such careless driving I find easy to justify this attitude. Especially when I don't jump red lights.
When i come across another cyclist when out Mountain biking it usually ends up in some polite conversation. The number of times when I have stopped at some lights while on my bike in london and another cyclist has pulled up and actually stopped there has been no conversation. I think to date just 2 smiles. Everyone seems interested in racing you. male macho bullshit. There is a time and place for it, don't get me wrong. But cycling in London this last few years hasn't been what I hoped for and it's not solely down to "drivers".

dear god. fucking drivers !! really, today i was riding up Edgware road and i noticed a car behind me reving like a twat so i waved him by.
Such was the traffic that he could only get to the side of me and not totally overtake me so to speak.
next thing i know is that this guy is pushing me right into the curb where i have to stop good and proper before being squished to oblivion.
he knew i was there and there was enough room for both of us.
What a cnut.
Really. He probably had a bad day and was taking it outta me.
Us cyclist get a raw deal when roads are concerned. -

i jump reds, when its safe.
and P.S what do u do if people are crossing a road when a Green light is telling me to go ? do i stop or keep going ?
as was the case in Tottenham court road, Euston Rd crossing 2 weeks ago i just hollared get outta the way, shit man i was flying. Could been ugly.
Thats London though eyes in you bum and a sense of everything around you. The moment you lose focus is the day you get done over. -

But just imagine this. that red light you jumped, one going over a junction. A car is coming and he/she is "flying". I hope for your sake they decide that your life is more important and make an attempt to brake.

Your attitude exposes double standard here, and this is how I think many drivers see cyclists:
Once traffic is moving a cyclist has no right to the road (only the gutter, or any cycle lane if lucky), yet as soon as the traffic slows and the cyclist has to filter through your tin boxes... then we have to abide by rules set-up to deal with the traffic problem YOU are causing.
If (as a driver) your frustrated, then get out of your car and onto a bike.

One other thing I must add...
Some cyclists ride dangerously/arrogantly. Some because they are idiots, but some because they are frustrated with one-person Jags, Mercs, and other wholly inappropriate methods of city transport.
This is of-course still in-excusable... but it is no worse than other drivers acting on their frustration.

Lol if it was a car that jumped the lights I would be frustrated too. And read the post again. I don't drive anymore. As a cyclist I get annoyed by cyclists jumping the lights. When you consider the statistics. TFL "83% increase in cyclists in the last year. RAC 50% of cyclists jump lights. How long do you think its going to be before we all have to pay to register our bikes? How many bikes you got?
Again ill repeat there are many bad drivers. MANY but that doesn't excuse the bad cycling.
You think the roads are bad here?
Some cunt of a driver in Australia got road rage over a group of 50 pro and serious amateur road cyclists, and decided to slam into them and then drive off.
