Polishing up a handlebar

  • So I have a black(painted) riser bar that I need to get silver.

Obviously I'll be sanding the paint off but I need to get a lovely smooth shiny finish. Any preferred, lotions, potions and methods?

    Thanks,

    G

  • Nice one Joe! Like you did with your rims

  • Yeah, except Jol did his properly and took his time! ;)

  • cut it down to the same size as yer grips :)

  • What's it goin' on? The Watanabe?

  • cut it down to the same size as yer grips :)

Now there's an easier solution? Champ grips are pretty lengthy. BUT they are kinda see through :-(

  • What's it goin' on? The Watanabe?

Yes mate. I picked it up from Parcelforce Mitcham last night. Opened the box, nearly blew my bags!

  • i got black ones :)

    Black bags? ;)

  • Actually, I have a set of white and they are solid colour - was gonna put clear on there. We'll see...

  • "Come and get ya black bin bags Chkk, Chkk! There on offer 'til Decembeeeer

Come and get ya black bin bags Chkk, Chkk! Whether bi or straight or bendeeeer!"*

  • Absolute genius! :-)

  • I just read the polishing thread by Jol. Was that stem originally alloy? I didn't know you could shine it up that nice!

  • You wouldn't believe how shiny you can get aluminium to go... Chrome-like... :o

  • Aluminium is what they make mirrors from so that gives you an idea of how shiny you can make it. Raw polished aluminium
    is shinier than chrome.

Also Meguiars metal polish is VERY good, not as abrasive as autosol, has a wax in it to prevent tarnishing and smells of coconut :)
