I got a 705 about 2 weeks ago, and did a few +100km trips with it.
It seems to be a nice bike computer, i mostly use the normal stuff like HR monitor and speed, and use the avg. speed to encourage myself to go a bit faster than last time :)
Also i like the grade-function a lot when driving in a hilly area. One problem that i did find is that the Elevation seems to be WAY off at times, especially when I'm in a city with tall buildings. I guess it just can't GPS-adjust the altimeter without more sattelites being visible.. but then perhaps it should just not do it? :)
Also, a known bug is that grade isn't always working, but time stop/start a few times makes it work.GPS navigation works, but at least here in Denmark it sometimes wants you to go a weird route, so it pays to zoom out a bit and look at it's suggestion from a larger point of view, and "adjust" it yourself by turning of route on purpose then the unit will normally just calculate a new route using the road you choose :) it's a bit slow at calculating, but it has not been a problem for me..
At least it gives you knowledge of where you are.. and i guess that the primary advantage. All in all i like the 705, i don't regret getting it.
But i hope that Garmin fixes the bugs related to elevation/grade, and also the navigation"freeze"bug that other users have experienced. -

Thanks clefty :-)
haj, cheers for the comments. I might wait until they release the next software update to see whether some of those issues get fixed.

I have to say I am very tempted by the Garmin 705- anyone have a real world knowledge of how long the battery lasts?

Dammit: not yet, but i'd be willing to test.... on a new unit i guess it will be better than it is in a year, though... I'll charge my unit when i get home, and leave it running tonight and for as long as it can tomorrow, with GPS on.

This might be handy: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=394187&page=3
Looks like people are reporting 17hrs before the unit shuts off.

Now for the bargain price of £70 !!!!!! :D
BUY IT - YOU BASTARDS !!!!!!
I have a brand new Garmin 205 going spare.
I only used it on this years London to Brighton - my bike (cranks/BB) died a couple of days later and my Garmin has been back in the box since.
My favorite thing about it is the ability to connect your 205 to your Mac or PC (comes with a USB lead) and upload your latest adventure to the Garmin online website data analyzer thingy - but the good bit is you can then save off a KML file (or KMZ file) and then download this back to your Mac/PC and open it in Google Earth so you can see your days cycling in Google Earth !!!!
It's fucking great ! :)
Here is a screen capture of my shameful 8 hour London to Brighton, you can see me winding my way through the English country side - in the first picture below on the left you can see Ditchling in the far distance - it even tracked the bit where I went for a piss in the bushes :) (bottom picture)

. . . and my other favorite bit is getting Google Earth to 'fly' you along the route, I might do next years London to Brighton this way, much easier ! ;P
Like I said surplus to needs right now, brand new mint condition not a spot of dust on the thing, boxed, leads, power supply, CDs and manual all still sealed + all the usual crap as new - they are £144.99 on sale at chainreactioncycles (usually £169.99) - if anyone is interested I will sling you mine for £90 - I would prefer to drop it off somewhere in London rather than post it - I want to see the whites of your eyes as you cross my palm with silver.
PM me if interested.

VB is like the old woman at the fruit stall feeling up my soft fruit with those big rough hands and complaining about the price only to buy it all from the stall next door.
It is yours for 70 golden nuggets.

Is this the same bag that was used as evidence in your banning order that saw you unable to be within 300 feet of any primary school ?

It was 1 of 2 bags that I had to use with your girlfriend ;)On second thoughts I'd rather not sink to your level.
