Wet wipes for cleaning kitchen sinks are good at removing oily grim from carpets etc. Just press the wipe down into the stain at first. Don't rub. That'll only make the problem worse. If you use lots of new wipes, one after the other, the grime will eventually start to disappear. Best to try a wipe on an inconspicuous part of the sofa first, just in case the colour runs.

Always have some baby wipes lying round. Great for stains, and for wiping your hands, tools, bike down after a bit of maintenance.

First pour a bottle of white wine on the stain, then a kilo of salt, then a bottle of red wine, then a bottle of soda water, then rub lightly, then more aggressively, then soak the area in lighter fluid, and then set it alight and leave the room.

hmm I'll give that a go later.
I spilt oil on my jeans in the lab on Friday afternoon. Grrrr :( And there's this bizarre yellow stuff on them too. Quite dodgy considering all the stuff is toxic/harmful/irritant/carcinogenic.
So I have got bike oil/grime on my girlfriends new pink sofa. Who has any good ideas to save me?
