You'll enjoi riding fixed more than riding single speed. But if you're looking for a mellow ride to work, ride freewheel.

• #7
ride a singlespeed to work, and a 'fix' back! simple!
-
• #8
Nah, ride fixed to work and flip to ss on the way back.

get a camel.

• #11
yes it does look big in that

The choice is obvious... There is no advantage to singlespeed over fixed unless you are going off-road.

I reckon singlespeed is quicker and safer for fast cornering, especially in the wet.

i don't think its quicker for cornering...if you have track cranks you can continue to peddle through the corner at a good angle without getting peddle strike.

I wasn't thinking of peddle strike but balance of your weight over the 2 wheels and keeping it constant through the turn. The simple action of pedaling can cause fluctuations which can effect the traction.

maybe so...
you get your single speed and i'll get my 'fixie'...do you know any good corners? -
• #23
I do miss wizzing down West Hill on the way in to work as I used to with the freewheel but having said that I like the responsiveness and simplicity of riding fixed.
Not sure I could go back to riding geared unless I really had to for some reason.Hmmm...

I currently have neither ss or fg. I'm converting my old hardtail to ss in the next few days. When funds are available I'll get a fixie but that don't change the laws of physics.
Corners ain't a problem as I don't live in Belgium.

Really!!! I am allow brakes...:P
when it is wet I will have my trusty old spesh allez..... but may be next week (hopefully at west end drinks) some one will lend me their fix to have another go!!
Now I have a choice....
Fix or single speed... I commute golders green to hammersmith... Downhill to work... and uphill back home...
I am cycle fit..(ish) and ride a road bike....
what do you think?
