Cinelli Pista "Replica" with rare parts

Posted on
  • Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum.

    http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/TOXICKA/Cinelli%20Replica/

For about a year, I've been collecting parts etc. I live in Istanbul and have to eBay or import every single part. The fact is, I don't know if my frame is a genuine Cinelli or not. A "131" serial number is stamped on the BB. Bought "as used" on eBay with all orange poor paint. As I started collecting parts, I came by rare and valuable parts and spent a lot on them. Now I want to be sure if the frame is the real thing or not.

    Frame (s/n 131) 54cm w/ new logo Cinelli BB & Campagnolo dropouts, 27.0 seat tube, 1631 g
Fork (s/n 131) Campagnolo dropouts, drilled for brake, 677g

The paint is VW Zenith Blue from 1967 Beetle, the photos show 1st coat only.

Headset Campagnolo Recor Strada, <1973 NOS (steel)
Stem Cinelli Milano Pista, <1968 (almost new) ultra rare 25.4 clamp size
Handlebar Soma Major Taylor (Cinelli Handlebars wouldn't fit)
    BB Campagnolo Record Pista (2006)
Chainset Early 151 BCD Campagnolo Pista 165 46T (excellent condition)
**Rims **Mavic Montherly Leggere 36H (Early Logo)
Hubs Gipiemme Pista F&R (NOS) 32H Low Flange - No photos

How can I find out if this frame is the real thing or not?

  • Cant help you on the authenticity - but that is going to be one sweet ride when you have finished

  • Istanbul'da hava nasil? Babam Istanbul'dan!

  • mr. zeppelin, really enjoyed your photos, very nice parts. that old mikashima box is ace.

  • Cinelli, much like Campagnolo, had produced parts for framebuilding. The BB shell is just that, a Cinelli produced part. If that is what you are basing your opinion of the bike being a Cinelli, you could be way off the mark. Cinelli's generally had a very distinctive seatstay joining method to the seat lug. They were fastback, but they had their own way of doing it. I tried looking for a pic of vintage cinelli stays and came up short on google. Sorry I cant be of more help.

I know that they made BB shells for frame builders, that's why I was wondering if mine was the real thing or not. So far, I thought it was just a custom made frame with Cinelli and Campy parts.

Thanks to your comment on the seatpost area, I've found some pics regarding seat post clamp area; comparing to original Cinelli frames, mine has a similar shape but it's different in detail. The original detail has a straight cut below the bolt area, mine looks like it's drilled round. I think it proves that my frame isn't the real thing.

Here are the original Pista photos:

    My frame seat clamp area:

  • Nice frame, I agree with you. The seatpost clamp area is slightly similiar but very different.

  • I don't think this is a cinelli track frame. Yes it is a different seat post clamp design, but also: cinelli drilled round holes in the lugs and didn't cut triangles to the best of my knowledge.
Sorry I cant say what the frame is

  • ooooh who has that photo of the large digger?

  • Hi Zeppelin

I am wondering about your Cinelli headbadge:

Where did you get it? Price etc ...

We can talk more in private if you switch on recive e-mails in lfgss.com settings.
Please reply. I need help with an old Cinelli headbadge and you know how it is to search eBay over and over again.

By the way, if you have some money over, here is an old and rare Cinelli Pista for sale:
