Lockring problem

Posted on
• So I changed sprocket on my Pista, tightened sprocket, tightened lockring, go for a ride, skid and almost fucked my knee while sprocket was turning.
I'm not sure but is it safe to use some sort of spacer, I think that my new sporcket is narrower than stock one?

It's cheap sprocket, they didn't have any other. And the nearest shop that sells track stuff is 350km away and different country:)

thank you

• yes, I measured both and the new one is 1mm thinner, the lockring cannot reach it.

• spacing it probably isn't the best idea. just order a better sprocket.
if you do it though, i'd put the spacer between the hub and sprocket, not between the sprocket and lockring as you need some friction for the lockring to work properly.
maybe put a bb lockring on under the sprocket (like a backwards suicide hub). it'll be thicker than 1mm tho.

• get an EAI form hujub

• I wont open new thread...have few noobish questions before I order online:

-Is a whole 1/8 system really stronger than 3/32 one? I have currently stock 3/32, and I'm thinking of changing chain and chainring too (or I just buy 3/32). I need strong drivetrain as I'm riding brakeless.

-Can I run 1/8 chain on 1/8 sprocket and 3/32 ring (or it would be noisy?)

• 1/8th can be stronger.

It can be marginally stronger, but provided you take care of your drivetrain, even 3/32 is very unlikely to fail. If you've already got 3/32 stuff I wouldn't bother changing for the sake of it, but if you're planning on switching the chain and ring anyway I guess an extra cog is no big expense.
