  • fuck it, if thats the only way.

    for sale.

    7 bikes. varying degrees of fixed/gears/rigid/hardtail/full suspension/mtb/road/flatland bmx/20inch wheel trials/unicycle/tidy/tatty.

    offers.

    cold turkey it will be.

for a while, then maybe that steamroller i thought about. hmmm

    1. Completely remove the object from your life

    You'll never escape me.

  • eek, scarey. i dont even know you.

  • But I know everything about you.

  • You'll never escape me.

Do you know the object of my desire?

  • @whatfriend 20 quid the lot.

@Object I'm heading straight for oblivion then.:)

  • Tommy, just accept it.
Druid, you desire a quiet evening in to contemplate your alchemic quest (or watch coronation street).

  • @whatfriend 20 quid the lot.

what? even though it said unicycle.i dont think you are serious. i would expect ofers along the lines of 20quid the lot minus the unicycle.

  • I'll give you 22.45GBP including the unicycle. I need another one so we can have drunken unicycle racing in my house.

  • hmmm i have had time to think and i may keep the job lot. however, if you actually seriously want a unicycle you can have mine for a fiver. including the layer of dust its gathered at the bottom of my stairs.

  • If you'll honestly sell it for 5 notes I'll take it. I'm serious about the drunken unicycle racing :]

  • yep and im honestly serious about the dust included. i dont live in london but do visit a lot as my girl lives there. im driving up monday evening and may be able to do the drop then or tuesday. if not i'll leave it tottenham hale ways untill im in london proper, and i can ride to meet you. may be a couple of weeks time but if you want it its yours. cool?

  • Tommy, just accept it.
Druid, you desire a quiet evening in to contemplate your alchemic quest (or watch coronation street).

Snooker it is then, once I've dried off.

  • Done and done.

I won't be able to do Tuesday next week but email me object17 at gmail dot com to sort it out.

    Thank you kindly.

  • Check out the gum walls on this one!

That thing is ace. It makes me want a mountain bike.

  • did you know that the front wheel is actually a back wheel too? the spacing is the same. so like on that one you can have two ss hubs with different gears and swap whenever.

  • I did, though to be honest I'll probably build up one geared and one SS hub. That way the bike will be a little more versatile.

Damnit - Wrong tense. My subconscious is telling me something.

  • I had a cross check. rode it all the way to Istanbul last summer. was really comfy and very sturdy. some bastard pinched on a night train on the way back, but i'll probably buy another one at some point.

I've got a cross check too. Nice bike, very comfortable and super versatile. It's kinda heavy, although putting a carbon fork on it lost some weight and allowed me to put a disc brake on the front. I use it to commute to work with 25mm slicks and then put 1.8" knobblies on for weekend mountian biking.

I agree with MrSmith's points though - Surly stuff is all quite expensive. When I bought my first proper fixed frame i decide to get a Bob Jackson instead of a steamroller because the frames are (or at least were 4 years ago) almost the same price and the BJ is clearly much nicer. I bought the crosscheck because I couldn't find anything else that offered the same versatility (and that fit me - I would have got a Cotic Roadrat if it came in a big enough size for me) but I still feel it was about £50 more expensive than it should have been.

The Surly image is a funny one. They started off as a small comapny and then got bought by QBP, one of the biggest conglomorates, so they definitely aren't just a few beirdy dudes making cool bikes. Having said that, they sell interesting, niche stuff and often blaze a path for others e.g the Pugsley and endomorph combo is still almost unique, the Karate monkey was one of the first 29er frames, the fixxer was a good idea that doesn't have an equivalent.

  • Anyone have experience of the Longual trucker? Got to love the names they have for these .

  • not personally. however my local shop built one for a local lady with a rollhoff hub. she loves it. i wish i'd got one instead of a second karate monkey built up as a tourer.
