If the guy has the receipt, then it's unlikely to be stolen I'd have thought aidan.

Ask for the receipt when you buy it, give it a glance, if it's not right, then don't buy it. Receipt makes the big difference.

Quick, buy re-sell on ebay with a 'buy it now price', before some other capitalist does exactly that.
