@scott - my cat had similar injuries a couple of years ago (falling from 3 floor scaffolding). He could move his tail (so we guessed no major nerve injury). He was in shock for about 48 hours, but his breathing gradually returned to normal, and he was eating okay. The limp subsided within a couple of weeks.
Now he just can't spring upwards like before, and he's more ginger about landing on the injured leg, but generally in good shape for a 15-year-old :)
