I think the best tactic for a heavy lock is to leave it where you lock up regularly, at work or at home. Then your bike will be safe while you are sleeping/working, and you can use a lighter lock to lock up outside shops for a few minutes.
By the look of the stolen bike posts on here, it seems like people should be storinging faghedda locks for use outside their favourite hackney pubs.
