not that i know anything, but for £600, you can get more of a 'proper' fixed than the skyline.
Surly for example

pretty good i built up an orange p7 frame and forks and a zaskar race , the orange is one of the originals with no chainstay bridge and my brother still rides it but is trying to sell it back too me and the zaskar is the reason im not keen on alloy frames very harsh too ride on.

Here's an idea that I'm thinking of putting into action for myself: Get yourself a Charge Tap commuter bike (Tange infinity tubing, so should be a bit lighter than the Plug), swap out the Nexus hub and wheel for a decent fixed hub/rim combo (and sell the Nexus). Should result in a solid fixie steed.
The Tap is £500, less (say) £40 for the sale of the Nexus hubbed rear wheel, and you've got £140 left in your budget for a decent rear wheel.
The only thing that's confusing me is whether the Tap has horizontal dropouts or not - the Charge web site says yes, all the pictures of it show it with them, but the specs on some online bike stores (like Pearson) say it has vertical. Anyway, I've ordered one for a trial ride from Evans Cycles so I should have the answer some time this week.

I think Pearson et al are using the frame spec for the Mixer by mistake.

Not a bad idea.
Wouldnt mind knowing plug weight for sure.

I should have my Tap later on this week. I'll weigh it and let you know. It'll be a good one and half kilos lighter without the Nexus hub, mind.

i see a charge tap nearly every day at uni, its a nice bike... nexus hub looks weird but i think it would make a nice fixed gear with a new rear wheel.

The straight forks are nice.
But you could almost build up a bob jackson for 5-600 quid. (with cheap parts).
....the felt TK2 comes with sugino 75s, nice

I'd go down the Bob Jackson route myself but have a Condor Pista for Sunday best. The Charge Tap route is a way of getting something more or less indestructible for everyday commuting. I'm going to tape over the decals to make it look like a piece of crap when I lock it outdoors as I have to at work (breaks me heart). Couldn't bring myself to do that to a Bob Jackson.

simple, effective, cheap.i might well go with that option
thinking thinking
Hey guys
This being my 1st post im looking for some words of wisdom from you all, im planning on bying a ss bike and have about 500-600 pounds to spend i quite like the skyline and and the plug but the plug weighs 29lbs i believe so it may be too heavy.
I like the langster but have had a alloy bike before and thought they were harsh so it kinda leaves the genisis skyline with nice track ends on it, any opinions pls?.
Oh and im 16 stone so lightweight frames may not be ideal.
