if its rotafixed, don't worry it shouldn't need a lockring.
check the hub and lockring thread. maybe order a new locking.
locktite is a no go- unless you never plan to change sprocket. -

I noticed the same on my miche sprocket (15t) and on-one hub last night. The last time I tightened the lockring + sprocket was 500 miles ago, and yesterday I decided to clean chain + sprocket, when I found that the lockring was finger loose. Never had a problem with it slipping though. A bit worrying on my setup, as the sprocket sits on the miche carrier and is held in place by the lockring.
I suppose I could turn the carrier around, so as to sandwich sprocket between hub and carrier, but that would offset my perfect chainline.
I am now gonna check it weekly! If it works loose again, I'll try some ptfe tape first. -

19st of gorilla skid stopping does require a lockring, even when rotofixed!
-
• #5
um, how about using a lockring tool to tighten it??
and also to second what you said above, put a lockring on even if the cog is rotafixed - considering they cost a few quid you'd be stupid not too (no offense eyebrows)

I know, I use one on my (also rotafixed) sprocket (esp as most hubs come with one!)
Don't locktite it, thats all the advice I have, and check the threads thoroughly (clean em too) and I think there us something about miche hub threads that is special, but I don't remember what. -

Are you using a Miche Lockring or another brand?
This is part of the question i was asking the other day. Im pretty sure from my reading miche hubs require or strongly prefer a miche lockring for some werid reason. -

hi all,
sorry to but in but this thread's the most relevant to my question. am i right in thinking dura ace don't make a 18t rear cog. If so, what's the best on the market. It's for an njs build and i wanted to be anal and have the rear cog japanese too. -

diffrent thread i think

this is the "other" thread, I'm pretty much after the same thing except i don't care about NJS.

Proper miche lockring yes, I have a shimano DA lockring from my old hubs but I'm 99% sure the thread is different.
squoocher: I'd go EAI if a black sprocket would suit or probably phil if shiny shiny would look better.
I had an EAI which was great and now an on-one which is very good indeed for a tenner. -

You won't get the lockring on tight enough with a hammer and screwdriver. Well, I suppose you might, if you REALLY give it some welly, but you'll end up ruining the thing in the process and that'll lead to trouble removing it.
I was tightening lockrings with needle-nosed pliers before I saw the light. Just bite the bullet and buy the correct tool for the job. It'll save you so much grief in the long run.

Dunno about the on-one sprockets but I know that the threaded area on newer miche hubs is a tiny bit wider than some sprockets requiring a spacer.
Also a proper lockring spanner will help loads!

you can use my lockring tool if you like...
just pm me. -
• #16
Meh, I'll buy a lock ring tool, thanks for the offer mister k but I'm not in london so it would be a bit of a trek.

yeah, no worries.
do you have a chimney? ;-)damn no!!!
went and borrowed one from my LBS this evening. the lockring threads on the hub (what brand of cheese do they machine these from?) are pretty well fucked now, it seems to unwind the lock ring and rip the last thread off, so I'm missing 2 threads and the 3rd is looking pretty poor. so probably time to loctite it all on and get a new hub ordered.
Goldtec or one of the shimano XTs re-spaced and a bolt on sprocket by londonfixiebike (or see if I can do that to a hope XC hub I have in the shed).

ooo... nasty.
what kind of hub is it?
and what lockring for that matter?
i've been told by numerous people not to use the lockring that comes with formula/sysex hubs, it's really shit and can strip your threads i think.oh, miche! haha.

Yeah Miche hub and lockring, before this I had a Harris/system-ex/formula
type hub and shimano DA lockring and had no problems at all.I think I'll loctite this all up at the weekend and get a new decent hub ordered, I'm drawn between a goldtec and dura-ace large flange, both being about £70rrp.

;154109']I know that the threaded area on newer miche hubs is a tiny bit wider than some sprockets requiring a spacer.
Since i relegated mine to the polo bike, spacer=a bunch of ring pulls i found on the floor of the polo court, jammed between the cog and lockring.
I'm having problems keeping the lockring tight on my Miche rear hub, I have the sprocket (on-one 18t) on the hub, rotofixed nice and tight. Then the lockring hammer and screwdrivered into place, it still works loose after a couple of weeks. has anyone had this problem and found a good solution. I was thinking about a very thin rubber ring between sprocket and lock ring as it would grip well on both surfaces, my other thought was a small amount of loctite.
