i know what you mean but unless you are using your bag for bomb disposal then I think you exaggerating how bad eastpaks are. Normal backpacks should gererally be good quiality if its a eastpak/jansport/north face. I've had a middle of the line north face rucksack for about 2 years and have used it pretty much every day for carrying uni gear, laptops, tools etc and theres still no wear on it.
Still, i know what you mean about the quality, a pac bag would probably last you for life. Which one do you have?
