I always wear one.
Had two accidents in the last five years. Clipped by a hit and run b@stard on Grays Inn Road about 4 years ago. I hit the road hit the road head first and the helmet saved me from certain stitches. Second one was about two years ago on Essex Road. Nailed by someone turning left across the bus lane who hadn't seen me. Flew head first into a concrete bollard. The helmet was neatly split down the middle, but I dread to think what the impact on my skull would have been without one.
Personal choice in the end though.

I usually wear one commuting. I hate it thought. Does anyone know of any helmets that don't look completely shit? Someone should make some. Definitely a gap in the market there
I think that beret one was the closest anybody's got. But then, i actually wear a beret anyway so I guess I'm wrrrradical.

I'd quite like one that looks like an army helmet.
But it would need air vents... -

i found one that accentuates my finer points and provides a suitable degree of saftey

By the way, I have a Bucky Lasek Pro tec helmet on ebay, if anyone is interested. Its CPSC certified which means it's suitable for bikes (on the road)
Its the wrong size for me

If you ride fixed you don't need to wear a helmet - wear a cycling cap instead ;)

Well, each to their own, but damn, If only I'd known that I was superhuman just because I ride fixed! Fixed rider's skulls don't break like other people's then? ;)
I tend to wear a cap and a helmet. Just to cover all bases -

Personal choice, but I wear one all the time. I look a tit but I have properly stacked and have landed on my head without a helmet and it wasn't fun. I gaze enviously at the cool kids at the lights without helmets, but I do ride reasonably assertively, so figure that law of averages mean that coming off is inevitable. But it never fails to amaze me at the number of commuters wearing a helmet so far back on their head that if they come off, their forehead will do the work, protecting their lovely helmet....

They look like the perfect lid for cold weather with the ear flaps and no vents.

i don't wear a helmet because... well i just never have. i decided to get one a while back after an minor accident. i wore it for a bit and then just sort of stopped. i don't mind having it on as soon forgot it was there but what bothered me was lugging it about attached to my bag when i got where i was going. the extra faff just put me off.
lovin tyhe looks of those bad lietenant helmets though. i'm almost tempted to start wearing a helmet again just so i can rock one of those.

I'd wear this but then I'd worry that I'd look like an extra from Warhammer 40,000

Mine's in my cupboard. It's a good one though, so I should be alright.
I suspect there's far more dangerous things in life than cycling. Like not cycling and getting fat, for example. The media and companies like to make us feel scared so they can sell us stuff like helmets, though (imho).

i like the shape of that giro but the line:
non-existent ventilation, but you ain't gonna be bothered. Ride it like you just don't care!is little worrying.

Years ago I remember being told that stickers damage helmets. Some chemical reaction. Now it sound rubbish to me as most helmets come with at least some brand name sticker on them. However my knowledge of chemistry is shit. Maybe there is one type of glue that is bad and one that is fine. Anyone know anything about this?

I wear one all the time, when I fitrst started cycling in London my rationale was that with me doing a 15-20 miles a day I would probably stack it some how.
About three years ago this happened on New Bridge St, smashed up the helemt good and proper, dislocated my shoulder and broke my scaphoid (bone in wrist). Wouldn't like to think what would be left of my head if it wasn't for the lid.
I always wear one. Really hate it.
