Gears are great. The true warrior masters all forms of weaponry slash bicycle.
I thought it would be fun to write slash instead of use the character - what do you guys think?
Anyway, just be careful with those cadex frames. They're tough but they're fscking old now and those carbon tubes are bonded to the lugs (as in, glued). There have been reports of 'unbonding'. -

dude, you're posting on a singlespeed/fixed gear forum, about the fact that the polish on your aluminium lugs for your (geared) purdy carbon road bike isn't quite to your satisfaction? No disrespect, but when the gods (chris, tynan, rpm, asm etc) find out...
quick, edit the post and ask about polishing a steel tracknut instead...:-)
Well I am obviously going to pull it limb from limb and put it back together as part of a single speed project! No, really! I've actually bought quite a few parts that I am switching out to get the bike as light as possible. Now all I need is to decide the gear ratio and buy a new chainring and rear sprockets.

I have just bought a Giant Cadex 980c which is about 10 years old. It is in excellent condition, very few scuffs/scratches as it wasn't used very much and was kept in storage.
I am really happy with it, but a few problems have come to light. Firstly, around the boundaries between the carbon fibre and aluminium lugs it seems that the aluminium has corroded slightly causing slight chips (I don't know if there is a resin covering that has chipped or the aluminium itself). Is it possible to repair and protect these areas?
Thanks
I'll add my tuppence, why not?
The Cadex is bonded as Hippy said and they are pretty old and like the glued Alan frames, they will come apart after a while. Still, The corrosion won't be that bad. Sand it smooth by hand, be careful around the carbon, then clean it with brasso or autosol and clean the residue. Then paint it with nail varnish as a temporary fix. It should look a treat when it's all done. I have a bit of a thing for the skinny tubed carbon bikes of yesteryear.
Chris
just saw one of those last week, nice frames. is there any discoloration (dark gray or black splotches) of the aluminum? this would show oxidation and weakening of the material, if these are present you should start looking at a new frame. if the polish, or chrome over the aluminum is chipping you should throw some clear nail polish, or automotive touch up paint on them. a respray is also an option, though a pricey one and i would caution against powder coating carbon fiber.
oh and after i get a track tandem im getting a geared bike.
and what about VB the creator god... as a god can i smote those whom displease me?
