he'll probably need a dongle to output video. macbooks/MBPs have a proprietary display output AFAIK.
if the content is not copyright protected and not too long you should be able to use the iDVD software that comes installed on the mac. but i've never tried this so i don't know - i have the dongle.
EDIT don't know if iDVD can handle DivX or Xvid files, sorry.
